Shadocx, 04 Jan 2021Of course it can, it has the 5G modem and it's using Cortex-A76, didn't you read?Sure, on paper it's all improvement and stuff but that also means possible increase in thermals on a budget phone with cheap-plastic builds. I know 5G is so hyped-up by phone makers but I was maybe hoping they would just do a 4G based improved 4-series since it would be cheaper and most guys who would buy cheap 4-series phones wouldn't really need 5G.

Qualcomm is very good at making budget chipsets and I am sure that they will bring some incredible technology to their Snapdragon 480 chip. I am sure that many smartphone manufacturers will make excellent use of this new chip.

I'm rocking a 450 SD, and it was way better than I expected. It's weak point is mostly the GPU, but other than that, is more than ok for normal everyday activities.

pesches132, 04 Jan 2021Can a 4-series even take full advantage of 5g? No but it will still be a reasonable upgrade over 4G since cheaper phones don't use extra 4G antennas to multistream. Cheaper 4G phones tend to max out at 40-50Mbps real world speeds and 5G hopefully will be able to do about 200Mbps on such devices once the system matures.

Anonymous, 04 Jan 2021This is better than all sd 6xx chipsets except sd690Snapdragon 675 and 678 should offer equal or slightly better CPU performance. It should be better on everything else tough.

Qualcomm is feeling the heat. They're introducing another chipset to counter against Dimensity 800. It's strange that it offers the same GPU as what was in the Snapdragon 750G and maybe better than Snapdragon 690 which now both of these chipsets provide less value for performance. Another strange fact is the omission of 4K recording capabilities despite being fully capable of doing so, probably to not downplay the 6 and 7 series. This is an interesting move from Qualcomm. Now I do wonder when devices would actually launch with it.

I think that is a good decision, because single core performance is important as well, but I don't think it will reach the multi core performance of Snapdragon 845, more like 835.

About time for the Snapdragon 400 series chipset to get a 5G-enabled variant. Now we can definitely see the rise of entry-level 5G smartphones.

700 series was pure money grabbing chips. These 4xx series are the ones where research coincides with the masses, because, the public cannot afford 7xx, 8xxx series. Even 6xx is costly in a developing country like India.

Hence, 4xx series is perfect for such consumers. And this is where cutting edge development too needs to sedate.

That's impressive considering how good the 460 already was. This should put the CPU in the region of the Snapdragon 845, not too shabby
