Medijanus, 06 Jan 2021The S20 ultra 5g is a great phone I had. Then I bought a note 20 ultra 5g which disappointed m... moreI was able in 2020 to own and test flagships from both Samsung and Apple. I have a Samsung S20 Snapdragon and an iPhone 12 pro max. They are both very different and each has advantages and disadvantages.
Advantages for iPhone:
1) Looks expensive, almost like a jewellry
2) Is kind of a status symbol
3) If you have other Apple devices, file transfer is easy with Air drop. If you don't, this becomes a disadvantage. Transfering from / to windows is difficult
4) Applications seem to be good optimised for iOS
5) The UI looks more serious and professional
6) Display is flat, easy to find tempered glass screen protectors & more accessories
7) I somehow prefere the display from iPhone (ironically also made by samsung)
8) Better camera in most situations (can be different on Note 20 Ultra which is much better)
Advantages for Samsung:
1) Better for multitasking, you can split screen, install youtube Vanced to run youtube in background, has more RAM (12 vs 6 though I never had to close apps on either phone)
2) Even without 120hz Samsung feels snappier and faster, because I could disable the animations. With 120hz the phone just flies, but consumes more battery, so I stay with 60hz. I never faced a lag, perfectly smooth
3) Samsung DeX, I would have loved to be able to do sth like this on iPhone. At least I can mirror my iPhone on my Samsung TV
4) Half the price of iPhone 12 pro max (paid for samsung 700Euro and for iPhone 12 pro max 256GB 1350Euro)

Example, I was looking at other brands to try something other than what's normally available but most of what I looked at don't work on my network or choice's bands. That's a little more important than zooming on a phone. They are still just phones in the end.

But people who appreciate quality and support, and who can afford it, pay for it, including in China, where 6 million iPhones were sold in November, a 20% increase over last year.

Boring. Lame. Overpriced. Just like all flagships these days. It‘s all about consumption and making money, money, money.
Maybe some new collaborations with Leica, Zeiss and Samyang (LG) or new Xperia could improve things this year. But honestly the last years there was no real innovation for camera, display, battery or anything else and this industry feels kinda foolish.
