They only messed it up on the S20 ultra because of AF problems.
Note 20 ultra fixed it.
Sony 12mp sensors are the worst of the lot this year (AMONG FLAGSHIPS)

Mobilemaster, 09 Jan 2021Samsung sensors are almost as good as Sony sensors, come on! Samsung is a very good brand, eve... moreSamsung sensor is great, but sometimes useless. They just wasting their time and money on this 108, 200 or 250MP camera sensor that won't give any major improvement. Take a look at iPhone and Pixel phones. They are still using 12MP sensors but still able to capture high quality images. It's not about quantity, it's about quality. Samsung should focus on improving their 50MP, 48MP and 64MP sensors. 108MP, 600MP is unnecessary.

When it uses the full area of 200 MPix, it can combine data of several pixels into one and simulate better dynamic range or larger pixels. The result of both photos would be say 12 MPix, but the image quality of the zoom would be far behind the full-area image.

AnonD-973296, 09 Jan 2021can someone explain me this article i don't quite understand it, like what's an ISOC... moreIsocell is how Samsung names their sensors, same way Sony calls Exmor.
Also isocell means a tech to prevent light from leaking to neighbor pixel.
Actually no sensor has this issue today.

AnonD-973296, 09 Jan 2021can someone explain me this article i don't quite understand it, like what's an ISOC... moreObviously no. Crop will never be reach the quality of optical lens. In fact the further you want to capture the image, the worse will be the result cropping. And add also the digital processing to the obtain the final image. If cropping is as good... Why don't remove the optical telephoto lens from the Ultra model?

Advertising the S21 and S21+ as 3x hybrid soon knowing that the real optical zoom is 1.1x seems more like a scam then anything else, and more asking the prices they ask. Why not 5x hybrid if they are that good without optical telephoto lens? Because it would be too obvious the lose of quality and that is almost all digital.

So Samsung are chasing no again, it's really a pointless exercise.
More mp does not automatically make for better photos and adds to processing overhead to boot.

While I love this accomplishment I think Samsung would greatly profit from developing more dedicated camera software. They are the kings of hardware, but just a slight increase in AI stacking and color accuracy could make them even better.
Adding to that I think there is a LOT of optimization to be done. We have so much raw horsepower on the phones, there needs to be more clever ways to make use of it than increaing the scale.

i0S...Never...Again, 09 Jan 2021Incoming Sony guys who'll bash these sensors for the simple fact that they are from Samsung. 1) All exmor are superior to their Isocell counterpart.

2) Sony is not stupid to make a 200MP sensor for mobile. Not even for medium format cameras they would make.

3) Samsung is always copying sony sensor tech.

Your comment itself shows that you would never take the understanding that Samsung sensors are inferior to Sony-Toshiba-OmniVision sensor... But still, I would ask you. How well the Samsung's 108 MP sensor received against the Popular 12-48-64 MP Sensors from other brands? .. Ask yourself that question!
