For your use actually an ipad mini is enough, and I think it's one of the best and cheapest devices for what it has to offer.
You could get the galaxy tab 6 (the 256GB/8GB version) if you like reading ebooks (moon plus reader pro is better than apple books in my opinion) and it should be available at a cheaper rate because it's old.
Then there is the latest ipad air. It's actually faster than the pro (which should get an update soon), but the refresh rates are low, which shouldn't be a problem for your use.
I think for your use the envy x360 13" with amd ryzen 4700u is the best option.
A pure tablet like surface or ipad isn't worth it unless you have a specific reason to buy it. As for Chromebooks, they get the worst hardware out there even though they appear cheaper.

From my experience even a base iPad is still better, more pleasant to use than Windows. Better apps, too.

Im really torn between 1)tablet chromebooks 2) android tablets (samsung galaxy tabs) and 3) surface tablet pc. I want to upgrade from surface go.
What do you think guys? My use for the device is mainly office docs editing and i dont play on pc anymore. I dont edit videos or photos. Im very dependent on google services such as maps, chrome, gmail, drive, etc.
Budget is 800 max 1000.

The M1 MacBook Air base 8gb ram model for 1000 dollars outperforms even the most expensive i7 on the series. Even the 8gb RAM on the M1 behaves more like 16 GB or maybe more than that.

I wouldn't mind recycled hw, be it phones or tablets, with right upgrade, like this one with ryzen 4800U or 5800U, or s21 with 5x tele. They just got to be boring...

Nah... not with the same thick bezels from 2015, and while latest intel laptop chips are not bad, I would have liked an amd cpu. Pass for me

1500$ pocket money and see zero reason buying iPhone 12 pro Max, i don't want compromise device, i want one device for different tasks and want to have that device to be as best as it can be for my needs. That's why i'm buying upcoming "Android flagship"
