108MP is a stoopid gimmick.

It's not Samsung's fault that S21 Ultra's 12-bit RAW output is in a public spotlight - they created a sensor that is capable of it, and made sure the option is enabled on their own phone and clearly introduced the feature during the S21 series announcement. Sony, on the other hand, just stated that their sensors have the feature on news/product documentation pages that probably nobody but core tech enthusiasts are interested to go through. I know that Find X2 Pro is actually capable of outputting 12-bit RAW from its main sensor as well, but you can't see people talking about it often because Oppo didn't advertise the feature broadly.
The OP is blaming Samsung for the fact that people don't know Sony has had a feature since a long time ago, which makes absolutely no sense (And he's done that countless times in the past). Sony didn't put an effort on advertising as much as Samsung did, so Samsung ends up getting all the credit and some people start assuming that Samsung is the first one who has invented it.. Whose fault do you think is that?
And this fantastic technology will be ruined because the excessive oversharpening by Samsung's camera software
So 4K 120fps recording is possible?
Shanti Dope, 15 Jan 2021You really don't get the point. The media doesn't point out when the popular brands... moreFood for thought: Maybe we just don't like Sony, because it's Sony. If there is a negative bias against them, they have done a pretty good job at creating it themselves. I'll never trust a company that thinks it's good business to deliberately infect millions with a rootkit just to be able to spy on them.

The media doesn't point out when the popular brands like Samsung and Apple are doing something that's exactly the same as from somebody in the past, but when the small companies like Sony would create something that's just quite similar, but very different concept from the popular brands, the media are very quick to point it out against them.
This is exactly how people are being brainwashed by the super biased media that promotes propaganda against small companies, because they know that those small companies don't have enough money to file a lawsuit case, while Samsung and Apple or any other big brands can easily do that.
At the end Sony sensors beat all of them . Sorry samsung but Sony are the best
Anonymous, 15 Jan 2021Not really. 4 pixels do not become one bigger, they act like one bigger. Also same colours... moreIt's not software, all the data needed to construct a full res image is already there if you select non-binning readout mode. Remosaicing is not an interpolation.

So according to you, non-Sony made sensors having a 12-bit RAW output support must be condemned. I didn't know having more features is actually a bad thing for us until now lol.

Even if the Note has an larger sensor and pixels when binned, it still has more noise than Iphone 12 Pro Max at the same light level? Which means higher ISO, which means the sensor that uses binning isn't as sensitive as an normal bayer sensor. Which means it is basically useless in videos. In photos it is superior. And Iphones have better HDR than Note even though binning means real time HDR

It is weird considering that 2.4 microns on the Galaxy vs 1.7 microns on the Iphone. Which means Pixel Binning is only useful in photos, but useless in videos, since in videos they can't do real time HDR like the Iphone does, and also exhibit more noise than regular bayer ones
AnonD-923722, 15 Jan 2021Still, the small pixels size still means super noisy videos. Even though photos look great. Bi... moreAs already mentioned by other people, the gap in video noise performance between Note and iPhone could be attributed to the different ISO settings. As for the IMX700y part of your argument - I disagree. It's definitely the most unique (or quirky if you put it badly) sensor that Sony has made for a mobile device, but it's not necessarily better than similarly sized RGB Quad Bayer sensors.

A 108MP photo would take a lot more space to process, and longer, since the nonpixel is doing a lot more than down downressing. It has to capture infienstion from the 9 pixels in each group, and improve the final photo, many times over.
the details captured with this cool new 108mp sensor are amazing. I can even see the molecules of my stake when i take pictures of it

Since it needs less ISO to achieve the same exposure i presume? So binned sensors are most effective in photos, not videos
