That may be the record for highest mobile chip clocks, but it's not really painting the whole picture. Have to wonder if these are boost clocks at peak or if they're able to sustain these clocks without overheating. Also is this multi core on the BIG cores (high performance) or single clock peak clock. SD chips are notorious for throttling down and/or getting hot in certain scenarios.

if they stop this nonesens with refresh rates and try to develop better battery tech that would be great. also a 700 series soc is great for 99% of what people use their phones for.

Qualcomm's tactical to fight against Exynos 1080 and Meditek Demsity 1200
I am not fimilar with global market, but in Chinese market, high value mid range phone, like Redmi K40(may renamed as Poco X4) will use it,price will be around 300 USD.
It is really good, since Sd 888 do not make huge improve compare to Sd865 running at same power(only 10%,if you need to reach 35% as Qualcomm said,u need double the power, causing heat problem)

YUKI93, 19 Jan 2021I'll just stay with the vanilla 865 all day.Sorry, I meant an underclocked 888, my mistake!

A $1200 phone with 865, would not cost $550 if it h... moreExactly. I can't hear anymore about these childish demands either. They want basically mobile gaming consoles and not Smartphones. The future of the smartphones should be a Replacement or an Addition to the standard Desktop & Laptop PC. Not a replacement to a gaming console... The funny part is, that there aren't any quality games in Google Play either. 95% of all Android games are pay2win, pay2progress low quality titles. Very few games are PC ports. But why playing these PC ports on a small screens (with less functions), when you can play them on PC with better graphic fidelity (and getting them with a better price from Steam)...
The smartphone industry took a wrong way the last few years.

Why would anybody use this chipset?
Instead of making an overclocked 865+, just make an underclocked 888 as that also uses less battery.

Why? Cooling.... Super cooled.

Dometalican, 19 Jan 2021I fail to see the point of having so many processors when 1 from 4 series is enough...Different chipset class possess different internal elements and readouts such as ISP. So even though SD 400 series chipset sounds more than enough, it won't have the same photography capability and computation as the flagship SD 800 series chipset where basically Qualcomm can run wild.
Not according to Samsung and exynos 2100. Lol. Exynos smoked sd out of the tech world, remember? The article is on this website, a few days old.
Real snapdragon 865 upgrade coming. Qualcomm please dont assign anymore flagship soc to exynos factory.

So basically, the 870 is an overclocked version of the 865+, which is the overclocked version of 865. At this point, any future smartphones with Snapdragon 865 or 865+ chipsets are rendered DOA. Sorry, HMD Nokia (unless you make another delay in favour of this upgraded chipset).
I don't see the point of this chip except that they weren't planning on releasing the 888 this early. They were going to release this chip as the 875 instead. Hurray for competition from Samsung and MediaTek.
