During the announcement, it was noted that this device is under development. So it's not surprising that they released it this late.

Might as well just scrap the camera built in altogether because professionals wont use it. For them, its just the better screen & crazy fast broadcasting. That is my point.
"The Xperia Pro is only expected to be offered in the US, which makes sense considering that it has support for mmWave 5G, which is still only a big thing in that market."
Maybe this is the reason why the Xperia 1 ii sold in USA market only has 4G connectivity.
So.. it will be 1 or II? Weird Name... Why not Xperia 1 G2?
Shui8, 22 Jan 2021Not targeted for average consumer, more onto professional film maker.
But I dont know wethe... moreNo professional is touching this with a 10 foot pole.
It's just Sony brand boys who buy into the marketing
I came back here remembering that since it's not for typical consumers, COVID basically halted its release since no movies were being filmed, daytime/night shows were being halted and then done from home and sports were also postponed so those networks weren't going to buy these phones yet last year. It was potentially going to be released with the 5 mark ii but COVID stopped it.
To me at least it makes sense.
Anonymous, 22 Jan 2021Mkbhd is a joke!! You can think whatever you want of the guy, but he's right about that.
The very purpose of a launch event is to build hype
around a product upon its imminent release.
If months goes by between the launch and the actual release then
the hype dies and most if not all of the potentials buyers have already
moved on by the time the phone hit the shelves.
Sometimes it doesn't matter cause the device wasn't all that great (See the Nokia 8.3)
but Xperia 1 II is a great phone and its whole family was late to the party. Kinda sad.
This disaster of a launch schedule will kill Sony Xperia altogether.
You don't launch a product if it's not ready to ship, it's that simple.
I don't get what Sony don't understand about that.
Pro version Xperia = hdmi port, recording button, 360 degrees 5G antennas to maximize signal and power etc ...
Pro of other brands = more RAM, more storage, "zoom" camera instead of 2MP macro
*** this device is gonna bring great money to sony. A prototype was used by NBC Sports to broadcast NFL in Houston. Connected to Sony videocamera.
imparanoic, 22 Jan 2021it's not a consumer phone, for pro market, with micro hdmi, lag free experience for film... moretrue... xperia pro is a super niche of a niche brand... xperia 1 ii is the nearest phone next to it...
AnonD-964130, 22 Jan 2021People blames samsung a lot but thats the only non chinese big company left for android mobile... moreLG is just a victim of their incompetent marketing strategy team, they release good/innovative phones but they fail to appeal to customers because of lack of enticing marketing.
AnonD-964130, 22 Jan 2021People blames samsung a lot but thats the only non chinese big company left for android mobile... moreSony at least offer occasional relevance - even if it's only in putting a current SoC into a phone that doesn't follow the trends of the last few years (ie it still has a headphone jack and a top bezel) - but that's about it.
LG and Sony keep producing "why the China phones had to happen" releases, and Samsung only look better because they throw in the occasional actual value proposition like the S20 FE 5G.
This device was not announced yet.
Just its development.

But I dont know wethe... morePeople interested in this device want it to connect to their cameras.
Because photocameras have screen with lower resolution than HD.
Also use its 5G capabilities to broadcast.
They do not plan to make it their daily driver phone.
Not targeted for average consumer, more onto professional film maker.
But I dont know wether professionals ready to use it or just stick with the current device. This wont sell much.
I thought this phone was only for multimedia companies and not for regular consumers (mainly because the one mark iii is on the way).
AnonD-964130, 22 Jan 2021People blames samsung a lot but thats the only non chinese big company left for android mobile... moreYou said it all.
People blames samsung a lot but thats the only non chinese big company left for android mobile devices who is relevant...this sony, lg,htc they are all on brink of extinction, still they dont learn and are greedy as ever with overpriced phones and outdated launch
