CCCP 2021, 22 Jan 2021Australia can kinda its create it's own news aggregation site with a browser and starts i... moreYes, they can try it of course. And others also can choose to not trade with you, declare you a national security threat and not let Intel, AMD, etc provide equipment for your servers. Now develop your own processors, etc, before you run out of business due to don't have where to install your software. Even if you can, how long it will take? A decade or two? No business can survive that long time without a base.

zodiacfml, 22 Jan 2021I dont get it. From Google app/search, one has to tap or open the link to get to the article Yes you do. You know what I don't understand the comments saying make Google pay, kick them out of EU and AUS etc.But they don't understand that Google can pay and they will at the end but what about smaller search engines they won't be able to pay their results will be worse and Google will dominate even more.

mandalaphone, 22 Jan 2021Good news for duckduckgoThe law makes no distinctions. It affects all search engines, all those who have income from including content generated in Australia must pay. Filtering only news content is not so easy.

Imagine that they decide to block all content from Australia from any type of company ... And that all search engines do so to avoid those fees. How many people will find your products online? You will have to pay for ads in the traditional media much more expensive where you cite not only the store or company but also the web... How long will people remember that information? With online search engines it is always available.

It will be interesting to see the consequences. The decisions of enlightened politicians are often counterproductive and harmful to the general interest of all, favoring a few.

The digital royalty on products that store content or record and reproduce is one example. It doesn't matter if I don't have anything copyrighted inside, I have to pay the same if I want a hard drive and that money goes into the hands of someone I've never heard of or read in my life. According to them, everyone has to pay for culture even if they do not consume it, simply because the enlightened politicians who are friends of certain authors have decided to do so, those who consume their products, so everyone must pay and shut up.

Stay strong Australia. A handful of billionaires should not be allowed to have unilateral control of 99% of human communications.

DuckDuckGo is better anyway

OwnFix3, 22 Jan 2021Why should Google pay news sites for promoting them and helping them make money? Google search engine works different. it rather finds interesting articles and displays them in the results. So basically google is using someone else's content to promote their website.
