                    "Back in February, we detailed a hidden feature in the Pixel’s SystemUI app called “Columbus” — a new gesture mechanism created by Google that utilizes sensor data from the gyroscope and the accelerometer to detect taps on the back of select Pixel phones...."

                    Yeah, so looks like it's just the gyroscope and accelerometer.

                                    Android already has an app to use and customize double and triple tap. It's called tap tap on xda
