dbjungle, 26 Jan 2021I'm convinced Sony does not want to sell phones anymore with their poor decision making. And bad release\launch strategies...
The notch indicates this is a budget L device, not a compact successor.

So happy to hear that it's coming back, might consider it for my next phone
This is really great news. On higher end segment there is some choice if someone is searching compact device - Pixel 4a and 5, Samsung s10e, iPhone 12 mini and SE. I put Pixel 4a in this category since in Bulgaria is 600 USD from unofficial sellers.
If Sony can provide small device with SD 4xx for 250 USD, it could be a great option.
[deleted post]if notches and holes can be hidden when watching movies, then that is alright... tried that with lg v50s, using the preloaded app... i can zoom out to avoid the notch... it is better, but the sides has "virtual bezel" which is bigger than the bezels of my 1ii... besides, phones with bezels are easier to handle... while watching on my xperia 1ii, there are times that my thumbs get in the view... something that doesnt happen to my z5 premium, being my phone for media consumption and work...
About time Sony, I don't care if it's a flagship or bargain basement budget, just bring back a compact.
Anonymous, 25 Jan 2021The sony xz2 compact was the worst phone I ever had and it was the most expensive one. Really? Since you spend 100% of time staring at the screen when using a phone no other phone at the time could touch XZ2s display. It was pinnacle of LCD technology.
I thought all Sony phones were compact.
Sony, make your phones 1/2 inch wider and call me. Your phones are way too narrow
Also stated in the Japanese version: "Sony is currently developing a compact Xperia equipped with Snapdragon 480. However, it is unlikely that this model will be rolled out globally , and it is highly likely that it will be a Japanese-only model".
I don't have high hopes that we'll see this phone landing anywhere else than JAP market.
I love a compact phone. My Sony xz2 compact has been my best phone ever and its still going strong although it has slowed down. I can't wait for the new one. It fits in my pocket snug I can hold it and use the whole screen with one hand.
Big is not always best
Hyacinth B, 25 Jan 2021I bought an XZ1C. It was was an good, strong device. I loved it. Still writing this comment from mine. Two and a half years and still going strong :D
i wish the top matched the bottom bezel versus water drop, but still glad someone is making smaller phones again
So there's still no actual compact flagship on Android.
The iPhone 12 mini feels like it's going to have historically slow depreciation purely because it'll have such a strong used market as the last of the small phones that still run modern apps in 2024.
Hyacinth B, 25 Jan 2021I bought an XZ1C. It was was an good, strong device. I loved it. Sales of Compact were not enough to keep them alive.
Z1c, Z3c and Z5c did not sell as much as bigger versions, but still had very good sales %.
The same could not be told about Xc, XZ1c and XZ2c.
Proportion big phone sales: compact sales were too disproportionate.
People do not know, the best seller xperia ever was Z1. While Z3 was #2.

Also, on pair with 5ii, would not be midrange.
Anonymous, 25 Jan 2021Just a tip: if to you 120Hz is important, do not turn on Stamina. It drops to 30Hz. Stamina mode is good to set "turn on" if battery is 30%-25%.
