Also, that's literally what I said :

I never said it need, even less justify a camera bump, I talked about outlines circling them, like this :

People are totally exaggerating the whole phobia thing. People who have that phobia are in such tiny minority that you can't justify ridiculous humps over that. Also you can make design imprints that surround circular lenses or you print underneath the glass whatever imaginary hump you wish. I'd rather have a thicker phone to always have camera flat + larger battery coz more internal space or at least a hump that goes across the entire phone's width, so the phone doesn't rock about. That's just so annoying I can't describe it.

But the trypophobia effect it is about the design effect (not preferences), a flat outline that is only printed or on another material (gold or silver color or shiny steel for example) would perfectly do the job at removing the trypophobia factor as much as a camera island and other bump.

I know this is only indirectly related, but look how the camera modules without any kind of bump, cover, color, outlines, etc look almost disturbing, almost triggering trypophobia (phobia of holes, do not google that).
Well, you might remember how the HMD Nokia 9 Pureview also did that?

That's how and why I said it would need some outlines, in such case it would have looked more like a simple ball bearing or car's wheel or anything that doesn't cause this repulsion.
