Anonymous, 07 Sep 2012Any sensible company would seek to widen it's supplier base, expecially if engaged in a patent... morewell that includes Apple's profit 2, from what I've heard a memory chip costs 16Gb less then 10$ 32Gb 20-30$ and 64Gb 70-80$ look at Amazon's pricing for the new Tablets they also use Samsung chips so that 100$ it's not from Samsung charging a lot for the chips it's from Apple incressing their profit
its because supply has droped. they will continue to sell the stock of iphones, but the demand is almost gone. nobody cares about a phone that only has a different screen and not much else new about it.

The real world market doesn't work like that, you have a product that the buyer either buys or not. Samsung owns 80% of memory chips market for a reason best quality/price ratio, so Apple has to either incress the price or lower the profit on one hand or give up on quality on the other, and to cover their high demand will probably have to do both.
Anonymous, 07 Sep 2012So Apple still gets the chips it needs just from different suppliers instead of one, but it's ... moreIt's biggest customer is the Military where cost is no object to stability and reliability. NAND flash shipments from apple may drop 5% pretty big but by no means cripple Samsung in Anyway. Samsung have been the leaders in NAND flash long before apple even came to market in 2007. This does mean that the like of HTC, Nokia, Samsung, Motorola, Blackberry, Sony and LG can increase the orders to meet demand in the mobile market. But NAND flash is used in hundreds of different applications/devices and are not limited to mobile phones.
Loepoes, 07 Sep 2012Thanks,didn't know that..Always good to learn something new...Danke,grazie,gracias,merci beaucoup...No problem. Also, as much as I like to debate, I try to stay clear of being a fanboy. I am certainly a fan of Apple, but if they make a stupid move, I will call the move stupid. Blind defending is for chumps. Read my comments and I believe I use a reasonable tone.
I am equally excited about Nokia an it's Lumia 920 for example. I believe the technology is very fresh and exciting, something I am hoping from Apple with its launch. I do however criticize the fake video/photo approach they took.
If we all took this approach, there would be less fighting and name calling, and more great discussion. I am not perfect tho, and I enjoy sometimes teasing once in a while which I try to reserve that for the trolls lol.
Any sensible company would seek to widen it's supplier base, expecially if engaged in a patent spat. Whether they end up with better quality only time will tell.
Do expect this "surplus" manufacturing capacity to end up in another manufacturer's products, as it will still have to be sold. Not so good for the competitor that shifted suppliers.
When you charge your customers £ 100 for a 16GB increase in memory capacity you don't really care for them anyway. A 32GB micro SD card costs about £ 16.00 retail (and less in massive volume)...
If your customers are keen to pay for overpriced technology you'd be a fool not to take their money.
Loepoes, 07 Sep 2012Now that would be telling....hummn! im sory for acting like a kid in that comment section! now its this mean that we are friends!
AnonD-70349, 07 Sep 2012To continue the metaphore there are only a few quality trees and Samsung owns them all.
Ap... moreTwo flaws in your argument.
1. Samsung does not own all the trees, otherwise Apple would have no where else to go. Apple now has the choice of Elpida, Toshiba and SK Hynix. You could of course say that Samsung has a LOT of the trees.
2. You state that quality will fall as a fact. If the alternative suppliers could not give Apple what Apple requested at the quality Apple wanted, then begrudgingly Apple would actually stay with Samsung. This actually happened last year when Apple cancelled plans due to insufficient quantity by an alternative supplier. The fact that Apple has gone ahead now, OS good indication that Apple has managed to get sufficient quantities of the components, at the quality level desired.

Apple buying their components from someone else means their quality will drop and yes i belive Samsung's share on the phone market will incress because of that.
PS: The new Nokia Windows 8 Phones use the chips Samsung makes, maybe there will be the new top client :)
iSJ5, 07 Sep 2012hope apple will not dealing in wrong suplier, if not, future idevices will be really a crap! right!absolutely, sure iphone 5 wont be upto the mark in terms of performance
