That is an absurdly large phone for a 4.3" screen. Typical of HTC these days.
HTC Windows Phone 8X has only one direct competitor, Nokia 920, of course.
So, how they stand side by side?
HTC WP 8X: its shape it's a blend of HTC Titan and HTC HD2, with no camera on relief on the back and sharper corners.
NOKIA 920 has its "standard" shape for WP, resembling with N9.
Conclusion: From the front they look alike (actually all WP looks the same from the front, it seems to me like an "standard look" to identify an windows phone). In rest, if you look at the section of the phones and their edges, it's clear that any resemblance is gone and you can clearly identify each of them.
2. Build quality and weight:
Both have superb build quality. HTC WP 8X has 130 grams and Nokia has 185 grams, so HTC is a winner here (only for weight).
3. Size and screen:
HTC WP 8X has an S-LCD2 capacitive touchscreen, with 720 x 1280 pixels, 4.3 inches (~342 ppi pixel density), protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 2 and it's laminated to reduce glare.
NOKIA 920 has a IPS TFT capacitive touchscreen, 768 x 1280 pixels, 4.5 inches (~332 ppi pixel density), protected with Corning Gorilla Glass and has - PureMotion HD+ display.
Conclusion: This is an intresting battle. HTC has a smaller screen with the same resolution (so a little higher dpi) and its quality it was proven with HTC ONE X (which is probably, at this moment, the best screen on an android phone). But Nokia also has its goregeous screen, with PureMotion Display and it's slighty bigger. Both screens has decent sizes. In my opinion it will be only personal taste which will decide what screen size and quality is better for them.
HTC WP 8X has internal memory of 16 GB storage and 1 GB RAM and also has a microSD card.
Nokia 920 has internal memory of 32 GB storage and 1 GB RAM but don't have a microSD card.
In theory, HTC should have an advantage here, due to its microSD card. But for most of users (including myself) 32 GB internal memory (probably with around 26-30 GB available ) is just enough (as I have discovered with my HOX). The posibility to expand internal memory should give HTC an advantage, but it's not decisive.
Later edit: it looks like HTC WP 8X doesen't have a micro SD card extension, after all. If it's so...NOKIA it's the clear winner here and not HTC.
5. OS, Chipset, CPU, GPU:
Both are the same here, with exactly the same components. Both firms has it's own flavor to add to WP8 so, again, will be just a matter of personal choice (but a lot of people will debate and argue over the forums witch is better :)) ).
NOKIA has LTE, HTC don't. In theory NOKIA should have an advantage here, but LTE is not yet a standard network. Probably n a few years it will be, but now it's not a must have. Also LTE eats a lot of battery..
HTC has 8 MP camera, 3264 x 2448 pixels, autofocus, 28mm wide, F2.0, LED flash..the same as in HOX.
NOKIA has 8 MP camera, 3264 x 2448 pixels, Carl Zeiss optics, optical image stabilization, autofocus, dual-LED flash.
Conclusion:HTC has a good camera..but NOKIA has a very good camera. In theory NOKIA has a clear advantage here, but this will be decided only by software and its features. Personally i think that NOKIA will have a slight advantage here.
HTC's battery has 1800 mAh and NOKIA's has 2000 mAh. It looks like HTC hasn't learned its lesson and are still insisting with weak battery (probably related with its production lines). It's interesting to see how they will perform with WP8. If WP8 is not so battery consuming as Android then the difference will not be that high. Because in practice we have related the cycle of recharging to our life cycle. So it's unimportant if a battery have 16 hours of use or 19, we will still recharge them every night. The difference will came if one lasts 16 h and another 32 h (practically around 2 days without recharging). But it's not the case here. So, a slight advantage for NOKIA, but not a decisive one (actually, if NOKIAs will be used in LTE networks their battery will drain faster, even if it's bigger).
9. Other features:
HTC has Beats audio enhancement, Bluetooth 2.1, secondary camera of 2.1 MP, Nokia has Bluetooth 3.1, secondary camera of 1.3 MP. Maybe a slight advantage to HTC here.
10. Final Conclusion:
They are 2 great firms, building quality phones. There are not so many great differences, each of them having its strength and weaknesses related to the other.
The problem is that the market quota of WP is abysmal. And there is no place yet for both of them. NOKIA has the advantage here, i think. Every die hard fan of NOKIA will never consider buying anything else and all their expectation are related by this phone, no matter how good HTC will be. Also, the price will be very important. If HTC will be sensible cheaper maybe they will get a greater share. But, for sure, this will not be the case.
What it's most important is the fact that Windows 8 has 2 of the strongest firms, well renowned for their build quality and good software implementation -NOKIA and HTC- to support it for the high-end smartphones category and those firms can help Windows to raise in the market and make a stand against the army of droids and royalist apples. And this is the best thing.
x: is it a nokia lumia ?

Android Fanboy 4.1.1, 20 Sep 2012LMAO! Do you think wp8 gonna dominate over dominating android in a few years FYI -that never ... moreI don't recall saying anything about dominating Android. Actually, WP8 goes great with Android! And market shares... oh god, again the same bullshit? I don't need a popular phone, i need a good phone.
Anonymous, 19 Sep 2012you are very boring with yout ugly wpYeah, well, not everybody is as interesting and beautiful as you are :/
Alex Cazan, 20 Sep 2012Haters gonna hate, mate! "Blah blah, Android is better, blah blah, Samsung is my God, bla... moreLMAO! Do you think wp8 gonna dominate over dominating android in a few years
FYI -that never gonna happen since MS couldnt raise their market share even at 3% yet.and the updates of android goes more rapid and getting better and more functional each time unlike slow process of windows phone os
So first gain some market share atleast 6% all over the world.then talk the trash
wp & its devices have come of age. nice phone from htc but i'd still go for nokia lumia 920
CHEAPHTC, 20 Sep 2012oh wow.. it's getting cheap! all these company keep copying each other... FRONT = LUMIA B... moreOh, yeah, excuse me, mister just-revealed-smartphone-all-knowing-guy, what's your problem? The phones look similar to Nokia's, but i wonder, have your tiny Samsung-made brain ever thought that this similarity in design might be an entry strategy or something? Do your really think that in the middle of the patent and copy war, the HTC designers just decided that it is better to copy the design? I mean, they make smartphones way longer than everybody else in the game, they must have some brains, right?
[deleted post]Haters gonna hate, mate! "Blah blah, Android is better, blah blah, Samsung is my God, blah blah". That's all i hear from android fan-boys each time something else comes out on the market. How about MINDING YOUR OWN FRACKING BUSINESS?
DAN13L, 20 Sep 2012I agree with you there. Nokia is a more reputable company than HTC. These HTC phones look like... moreIt's true, this phones look alike, but it might be some WP8 launch trend. Anyway, HTC build quality is well known, so this phones surely will be some good phones. And please, no talking about cheap plastic Sammy droids. That's an entirely different approach on how to build phones.
freddi, 20 Sep 2012HTC 8X = Nokia Lumia =W8=Dying soon.Bullshit freddi, whats so bad about the WP8 OS, now it has the potential to have the same specs as Android or IOS. Plus the UI is fresh and very clean and good looking. Just compare a specific app on the Android and the same app in WP. Looks great on WP
HTC never learns from their past mistakes! Still 16GB memory and no sd expansion?? Could have made 32GB if no memory expansion. But the design looks cool though
Good to see the fear from android fans.
Elop said no to lag and forced closes and
People called him an idiot, Some people like
smooth user interface from day 1. Not an OS that gets slower over time and hides behind quadcores and promises of lag fixes...
Anonymous, 20 Sep 2012Android won't survive against Windows Phone. Windows 8, Xbox, and Microsoft Office are all goi... moreUp to date, I dont see any drastic growth in Win8 OS.
In other hand both Android and iOS has growth rapidly for these few years.
It is almost the same like Nokia Lumia. Why ? My old phone was HTC i liked it, but now c'mon htc with windows and it is pretty much like Nokia.
