As a SE Xperia owner who just sent my phone back for a reset to gingerbread because the update to ics caused it to slow down unacceptably, I don't think the upgrade is any great shakes unless the hardware is built for it. I'm currently using a temp phone on gingerbread which cost one-fourth what my SE cost, just till my SE comes back from service. The gingerbread cheapy temp is far more satisfying than the SE on an upgrade for which the SE was not built.
Arif, 29 Sep 2012I don't see why the Motorola ATRIX 4G has to suffer. It is definitely capable of ICS; it sport... moreI can't believe that they had the gall to say for two quarters on an official upgrade path website that they were releasing ics. That's what has me mad. Poor people who bought it in April stuck for two years on gingerbread... Good job moto/google. This is equivalent to apple saying ios6 won't run on iphone 4s.
The photon is just a year old. And google has the arrogance to say that other companies must support there phones for 18 months WHEN GOOGLE'S OWN SUBSIDIARY WON'T?
IF google wants to save its subsidiary's brand image, and actually sell a future Motorola branded Nexus phone, they need to step in and fix this situation.

They keep them simple. It helps with compatibility issues in games, faster software update, and better optimization for OS speed.
It's sad to see the dev community falling apart.
It was a devastating move and a very bad face for moto.
I've thought Moto devices will be well "taken care off" since Google acquired Moto's Mobility. I guess it's not the case. To make it worst, Moto closes down their Market on some Asian countries.
Can't possible blame Motorola. Android has too many hardware fragmentation. Exynos SoC with MALI GPUs, Snapdragon SoC with Adreno GPUs, TI OMAP SoC with PowerVR SGX GPUs, Tegra SoC with GeForce ULP GPUs, and some other cheap chinese SoCs.
Android, doesn't have guaranted for update.. Only produce device,,and not guaranted for update. Not like Ip***e..expensive,but always ready for update OS..
My Motorola Photon is only half-year old, and it will not get ICS update??
Motorola, you're FREAKING LIARS!!!
Just a big deception from motorola who is owned by google (hint) I bought an atrix 4g because of the promised ics update
I am really disappointed and will not by any thing from Moto again
Anonymous, 29 Sep 2012This is good news. WP8 devices are guaranteed 18 months of software updates. And no Microsoft ... moreOk, no android user has any interest in wp8. Just leave your comments about Nokia and wp8 somewhere else. Not even iPhone users care about wp8 lol
Atrix 4g can even run The Key Lime Pie very well......and you can't even upgrade to ics.....i thought you must come with the Jelly bean at least......but i didnt know that you were just going to be sooooo STUPID.......Motorola....bravo...
Google can't possible update all these devices because of fragmentation in hardware. Android has many SoCs and many different graphics chips.
This is good news. WP8 devices are guaranteed 18 months of software updates. And no Microsoft never guaranteed WP7 to WP8 upgrade, at least they said that every WP7 will be upgraded to WP7.8. Yes, even discontinued devices. Atrix is fullly capable of running Jelly Bean.
