Why do people say "OnePlus used to be known for quick updates to new Android versions"? That's a straight up lie, OnePlus was never fast releasing updates for their older phones, and that also implies their updates haven't gotten any slower than what they were. Sure, their latests phones get updated to the latest version in less than a month, or even at the same time than Pixels (that was the case of the OnePlus 6, 7, 8 and most likely 9 too), but their older generation always get updated early next year after an Android update has been released, and the 2nd oldest gen later next year. That's how it always has been.
Don't get me wrong, I'd obviously love to have faster updates, but complaining about how bad a company is getting because of a "recent problem" that infact has always been there just doesn't make much sense.
So if you bought/are going to buy a OnePlus phone expect a really fast 1st update, and industry-average 2nd update, and a really slow 3rd update as seen in this article with the OP6

Anonymous, 30 Apr 2021meanwhile my OnePlus 5T is already running a functioning Android 11 build thanks to LineageOSI am using crDroid, and it is very stable for daily use, my OnePlus 5T feels more stable than the buggy Oxygen OS 10
OnePlua seems to have clearly lost the track which made it win many hearts. My 6T is being used by my kids now for online classes.

pathetic... this is going to be my last OnePlus phone
Anonymous, 30 Apr 2021Another person can't do anything to your data, even with bootloader unlocked Well, this is only the partial truth, what should be done anyway, bootloader or not, is to have the security isn't totally independent of the OS, so it can protect the bootloader and prevent the phone from being used by a thief, making this model useless to steal.
BUT, it will NOT protect data that aren't encrypted, I have recently bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab A 2019 and in order to install LineageOS and to Root it effectively, I flashed Multidisabler into it (I have a TWRP + Multidisabler + Magisk + LineageOS + Open Gapps Pico (aka Playstore only) install which haven't shown any signs of issues), which remove the file-based encryption, that along with TWRP, it is easy to access the data.
Though in my case I don't care as the sole purpose of the device is to serve as a launcher (Touch Portal) and a fourth display but outside of my computer, so when I play games, I can look stuff online without having to comeback to the desktop, which prove highly valuable with Red Dead Online which strangely had poor performances after I did switch to another windows (alt tab or clicking on another monitor), which is handy because the collector item map online is highly valuable.

Vonikhsat S Metra, 30 Apr 2021LineageOS is a great option if you're not afraid of losing your device or having your dev... moreWhat are the chances a random thief knows what to do with an unlocked bootloader or even can tell if the bootloader is unlocked in the first place? Also the chances of your phone being stolen is minimal. Might happen once or twice in your entire life but it's not very common.

It requires an unlocked bootloader which means another person can do anything with your phone.

I'm NOT looking forward to Oxygen 11 because it looks and feels just horrible. Maybe instead of upgrading to it, I'll upgrade to LineageOS instead.
I dont' care if it arrives late, what's important is that the stable builds is bug free, as it seems it
hard for OP to release decent stable build without major bugs for devices older than 12 months or so as Oneplus 5,5T,6,6T and 7 series owners have experienced.
