I am with 9 as i am too lazy to flash new OS so i have the android 11 for my phone. But as my phone dont show any signs of death i dont see a reason to change it. Even tough my phone is 3 years old i still dont see a reason to change it

What does it matter when you need to accept the ads tracking in apps when you want to use there apps. If you dont accept, then you dont have access to these apps. Same like the personal info to data all apps ask if you want to use the apps.

I have a G8x which you can't call an old or slow phone with Snapdragon 855 in it, and I'm happy keeping it for its audio quality, dual screen, etc. which I'm not likely to get elsewhere.
But as destiny is with LG mobile, it will never get Android 12. Even rest of Google is, as you beautifully explained, opt out by user initiative and effort..

Maybe they started this with Android 12 so that developers don't start to revolt because right not Android 12 is minority.

As long as app is still delivered via Play Store, Google can easily implement the features via the policy update.

Given the state of Android update, I would open a big party if 1/3 of the current devices get updated to Android 12. That also means billions of devices are still out there, freely for all those notorious apps to track.

lets see how google just buries this undersettings so that normal people dont know how to use it. we all know how google handles android. even if we disable our location google could access it. thats just a small prof that this is just a stunt by google so that people wont switch to ios. these days everything in android is tracked.and if these datas are only used for advertising means am okay with that. but we all know they use these datas for many other things as well. especially how to make you addicted to their services and apps so that they could generate more revenue out of them. so dont trust google

Don't just keep on assuming stuff.

And btw this article doesn't mention this will later on apply to all apps downloaded through play store.

Look at the reports on how apple own apple ad -platform is growing after iOS 14.5 update. If you know anything about identifiers you would know what purpose they serve for getting personalized ads. It basically blocks all third-party companies to serve personalized ads. When apple has their own section in setting for their own ad-platfrom which is opt-out.

People are tired that everything is polluted with ads: phones, computers, tv, streets, public transportations,... I am just waiting to start seeing ads on digital dash in own private cars, bedrooms, operation rooms in hospitals...

Samath N8 808 owner, 05 Jun 2021Its unfair to be required to update to Android 12 for this. I mean, this is a simple change, ... moreWhen has anything been universal on Android when they can't even deliver updates consistently? This could easily be implemented through GooglePlay update and change of its business policy. But Google being data miner it's in least of their interest to do it. With Android 12 being requirement that many won't fulfill, they'll be able to happily mine data from remaining users. Including the fact user has to opt out through clumsy Google Settings app which is more of a Google account webpages stuffed into faux app. It's terrible and it's purposely made that way just to discourage people doing it.

Anonymous, 05 Jun 2021They just disable 3rd party ad tracking but not their own which is built into the system. Same... moreExactly. All they want is that everyone who wants to advertise to come to them and give them money. Terms and conditions of Google and apple are the same without is they do whatever they want with your data.
That's the problem between apple and Facebook: slices of pie and who get the biggest part. Because Facebook didn't share enough apple has blocked them to track. If they will give enough money, apple will let them do what ever they want.
