Only 8 days of iPhone 5 sales were recorded here, meaning the rest was pre-launch sales, yet profits still fantastic. Well done Apple!

Anonymous, 26 Oct 2012I see where Samsung just announced a record net quarterly profit of $5.97 Billion.... The ... moreAlthough Samsung's profit is second best to Apple which is very good is no where near $5 billions you are talking about. Those numbers together is a total what Samsung do such as appliances, tv's, mobile, and etc. No matter how we take it, it's just amazing a company can generate so much more profit year over year. This holiday with an ample supply of iPhone 5s(which are sold out everywhere), new mini iPad, upgraded iPad 3 and the new line of MacBooks and iMacs will put Apple over the $10 billion mark profit. I'm crapping in my pants right now!

I enjoy the excuse of "supply shortages". How did Samsung manage to sell twice the amount of smartphones that Apple did in the last quarter? They didn't suffer from shortages? Who can - does it, who cannot - invents lame excuses like "supply shortages" :-)

The comments/commenters here really illustrate the general lack of business knowledge of the folks on this site. You're upset that a company is chasing profits? Which company doesn't do that? The goal of a publicly traded company is to return value to its shareholders. All that talk about caring about the customer, for any company, is just marketing. You can be bitter that a company you don't like is making massive profits, but don't act like they are the only company with purely commercial motivations. Seems faux outrage and fanboyism go hand in hand.

So does this mean they actually sold MORE iPhones (which were mostly iPhone 4S and 4) in Q2 than iPhone 5's in Q3???? WOW. That is some VERY BAD news for Apple. Especially when during Q2 people actually HELD OUT to buy the iPhone 5 which was to be released in Q3... This is SHOCKING!

that what happens when a company minds only for profit and NOT for his customers (aka funboys). They invented NOTHING and they deserved nothing ! Thank god for them , the iShips bought there UNupgraded products, light connectors (well that's an innovation.like inventing the apple pie) and they still make huge profits...

I see where Samsung just announced a record net quarterly profit of $5.97 Billion....

The estimate is that they sold 18-20 million SGS3's in the last quarter which is pretty amazing given all the other phones they sell as well.

Anyway, its good to see at least 2 mobile companies are doing well.
