Sony is worse with under 550 nits average brightness quite pathetic for a flagship. Don't make excuse of 4k display, the Xperia 5 II series also has dim panel. Sony simply cutting costs by using dim display

Before pricing how unrelated those devices are....
The brightness was fine with those devices and their outdoor visibility was always among the highest.
Besides that... what do they have to do with the issue at hand? Those were back then. This is now. So yes. Now I'm 2021 when we've progressed from 800 to over 1000 for phones that $1000 plus dollars we should be getting what we deserve and are paying for.
Not oh well a few years ago it was like this so it's ok to pay top dollar for dated things.
And no. The 1 iii doesn't reach over 600 nits. Not in normal use. It only does in Google photos and a few select apps. In most usage and content it only passes 500 nits. Literally half the brightness of samsung right now.

I don't how you lived with your phones so far to this day especially if you are into midrangers or a Samsung Galaxy S fan with those horrible early AMOLEDs such as S9. S8, S7, S6. You probably had huge issues going outside then. Thank god you don't have OLED TV cause I don't know how would you watch content during a daytime if you have a window opening in a room where it's placed.
Btw max brighntess for Xperia Pro is 600 nits but according to you that's not bright enough either. It's either 1000 or go home right?

I don't want to get too deep in some conspiracy theories, BUT it is not uncommon for companies to first "leak" on purpose some bad news and watch for public response before deciding if they go with it or not.
