Weird Vivo has access to same suppliers of Oppo and OP (for almost all components) does not advertise it for the UWA.
Chinese are doing crop as well. Field of View does not match.
Check the samples. The 14mm of OP9 Pro is narrower FOV than phones with 16/17mm.
At least OnePlus does not use Canon/Nikon to advertise the phone capabilities.
Unlike other.

Except vivo x50 pro+ (1/3" at 135mm), all beyond 125mm need to decrease sensor size.
To have 2 periscopes with same sensor, you cant have both like 1/1.7", 1/1.5" or 1/1.2".
Making phone thicker just is main reason they get heavier.
It adds more weight than when internals are changed to house larger battery while keeping same thickness.

- Those Pro lens manufacture simply doesn't provide it. Laowa lens are available, 12mm with near to none distortion at hardware level.
- Largan Precision is likely the supplier for the freeform lens in smartphone. At the moment, only two branded smartphone claim using freeform lens on its UWA, Oneplus 9 Pro & Huawei Mate 40 Pro+. The rest are definitely resolve at software level.
Dometalican, 05 Sep 2021I wholeheartedly agree with this. I've always wondered why a giant sensor doesn't st... moreWhile that sounds like a good idea, the whole engineering construction would be far from small. Just take a look at Sony's SELP18105G 18-105mm fixed aperture APS-C lens, it's huge! Factoring in the 35mm effective focal length calculation, that is 0.5x to 3x zoom. If you went for a variable aperture lens with a longer zoom like Tamron 18-300mm APS-C lens, that is even bigger than the aforementioned Sony's. Imagine trying to cram all that bulk of technology in a thin 8mm smartphone, I would even dare to say impossible.
Luigge, 05 Sep 2021I want xenon flash, even though it may be not as useful as it looks to my little understanding... moreXenon flash is super useful when it comes to stopping movements. I tried that on my friend's 808 PureView and it's insanely good.
I have absolutely no use for zoom. I'd rather have a larger (In sensor area, not bs MP count) main sensor with solid OIS.
I always want to see a modern interpretation of Nokia/Microsoft's PureView oversampling technique when it comes to digital zooming, but I guess I'm hoping too much since pretty much everyone except Google, Apple, and Sony as of September 2021 is now using Quad Bayer and Nona Bayer camera sensors. What I would want to see though is more use of periscope cameras. I don't see any problem having two periscope cameras of identical sensor size with one for 1x-5x zoom and another one for 5x-10x zoom. That way, we can have the same photo quality as a true motorized zoom camera like Samsung's Galaxy S4 zoom and Galaxy K zoom but without the bulk and body thickness.
Equivalent to carrying a 24mm-170 mm zoom!
zoom camera's? we need a full frame sensor smartphone!!!!!!
My wish for a best setup:
Main cam: fixed lens 1x with 108MP from 1/1.33" or bigger sensor, OIS. Outputs 27MP photos as default. Lossless zoom from x1.1 to x1.9 by cropping the 108MP & downscaling to 27MP.
1st telephoto: fixed lens 2x with 27MP output from smaller like 1/2.0" sensor, OIS!!! Hybrid zoom from x2.1 to x3.6.
2nd telephoto camera: fixed lens (not periscope) x3.7 with 108MP from 1/1.33" or bigger sensor, OIS. Outputs 27MP photos as default. Lossless zoom from x3.8 to maybe x5 by cropping the 108MP (& downscaling to 12MP?). Hybrid zoom from x5.6 to x10.
Also desired price to be under like 600 Euros.
And yes, I had Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Pro & liked its camera set up but there was room for improvements, so there I had my thoughts how there could be a better cameraphone from it.

All phones do software correction + bit crop.
Obviously, not all OEMs admit to do it.
khellandros66, 05 Sep 2021why i said a 3x with the 12mp 1.8um1.7" is too large even for 35mm. Let alone 70mm or beyond.
For example, periscope of p50 series is 1/2.9" , many think it is 1/1.76" like usual 64MP quadbayer are.
Phones do not have space for more.
Phones have limited space for cam system .
There is no space too keep same aperture for different angles.
As you increase FL, f value goes lower.
This is why you do not need to expect a 15-150mm phone using single camera and for example f1.8 across all angles.
In this case, it would probably be like 15mm f1.8 and 150mm f2.8.
Luigge, 05 Sep 2021I want xenon flash, even though it may be not as useful as it looks to my little understanding... morealso, I would like a zoom that I could shoot moon photos like at least a cheap binoculars, and also some microscopic zoom, kinda like the macro cameras but being able to go from Like 5cm to something as close as like 1mm or so
I want xenon flash, even though it may be not as useful as it looks to my little understanding it is cool.
Anonymous, 05 Sep 2021"Continuous zoom lenses" Zoom lens always means continuous, otherwise it's cal... moreThey are obviously talking in 35mm equivalent field of view.
Since the 'x' system is pointless, I would like to have a 16mm uwa that doesn't require any correction, a 28mm primary and something in the 65-75mm in the tele. A 120mm+ periscope tele would be nice but I don't think I would like to use it because they would be quite difficult to compose on a phone since I'm used to viewfinders on cameras.
All with good enough lenses obviously.
wongwatt, 05 Sep 2021The 3x on the P40 Pro plus is excellent but the 10x is pretty pointless, it's just a bit ... morewhy i said a 3x with the 12mp 1.8um
Sites that cover mobile need to stop calling optical zoom those with prime lenses.
Samsung K Zoom = optical zoom lens
Samsung S21 Ultra = prime lens
I want a 12mp 1.8um with 3x and instead of wide/ultrwide, a good compromise of 100 degree fov (18mm?) 50mp GN2 cause at 27mm equivalent crop zoom you get about 35ish Megapixels then lastly for video a gimbal sensor 1/1.5" 10mp with binningfor 4k 24/30/48/60 @ 3.0um or 1080p 24/30/48/60 @ 6.0um
