jjsoviet, 25 Jun 2008Nah, you can't just take the fact that for the first time in the history of mankind that Motor... moreI partly agree with you 'jjsoviet'But I have never thought of nokia as 'The undefeatables' For instance Sonyericsson has been the one reigning over camera quality for several years (S700,K750i,K800). So I don't think they qualify as 'Undefeatables' with N95+82
But I must agree with you on what motorola have accomplished with this new ZN5 it's simply amazing, the camera overall just beats the N82 according to mobile-review and Smape, and both of them also mentioned that the sound quality is on the level of E8, wich is about the best music quality available today in phones.
A cool thing SMAPE.com also mentioned is that because it handles raw format pictures, it would have to be fast and they did make it faster by adding another 'IPU unit' in the device wich combined makes it's performance even greater then N82 (wich is a smartphone for cying out loud^^) And pleas just consider the fact that those nokia fanboys for the few months that they were are pretty usde to being on top. Their world is just falling apart with this phone beeing the first in line of motorola foto-centric devices and Sonyericsson even launching an 8 mpxl unit at the end of this year, now these companies did this in order to get back their positions lost (to the korean companies Samsung and LG). So it isn't really even their priority to over throw nokia, but I guys we can't stop them from feeling endangered and freightened ^^
jjsoviet, 25 Jun 2008Nah, you can't just take the fact that for the first time in the history of mankind that Motor... moreCorrection!!!!
Flash: Nokia (better flash control)
And by the way, those ZN5 "horrible" pictures are taken at full resolution. Every digital camera/camera phone photos look that way when taken at full resolution. If you just make the pictures smaller, you will see that the ZN5 is better than the others, no doubt.

Sorry about that.
John Doe, 25 Jun 2008I wonder if Moto has spent more money paying off the review mags (mobile review) than developi... moreNah, you can't just take the fact that for the first time in the history of mankind that Motorola defeated the "undefeatable" Nokia in terms of camera quality. I took a hard look and what I saw in the sample pictures:
Color Depth: Moto (deeper and more natural colors; Nokia does the eye-candy effect)
Sharpness: Moto (pixelized rather than blurred when zoomed in)
Brightness: Tie (one trumps the other in specific conditions)
Camera Speed: Moto (almost no lag)
Macro: Nokia (better focus)
Night Shots: Moto (brighter pictures)/ Nokia (less noise)
And by the way, those ZN5 "horrible" pictures are taken at full resolution. Every digital camera/camera phone photos look that way when taken at full resolution. If you just make the pictures smaller, you will see that the ZN5 is better than the others, no doubt.
Flash: Nokia (better flash control)
No disrepect to you guys from GSM Arena but have you guys even bothered to look up the sites mobile-review.com and SMAPE.com.
They both have very detailed re/previews of this device in wich every function of this device get's explained.
the camera is KODAK 5 Megapixelss camera,
not those china clone phone- 5.0 CMOS SENSOR Camera :)
according to motorola website
Just in case my other comment doesn't show (I was a bit harsh I know) I'll post the clean version:
GSM arena posted the FULL resolution pics, that's what you're seeing there. N82 and K850 pics will look the same in those conditions.
A little experiment : Save any image of ZN5 posted above, then resize it to 1600×1200 .. Now compare with your so called better 2 megapixel phones. You will see the ZN5 is far better at color depth, resoultion and detail.
I did see a N82 floating around buy.com for $400 (offical Nokia). I do wish the ZN5 was priced lower, since it lacks 3G.
I wonder if Moto has spent more money paying off the review mags (mobile review) than developing the camera. quality is horrible but comments very positive???? look at the n82 vs moto comparison....
who knows if the zn5 has multitasking, to be a good smartphone you need this. . . .
great job moto with the linux
Hahaha... Anti Motorola begun to bashing Motorola.
You can say anything theory about Motorola and Kodak. Read this link => http://direct.motorola.com/hellomoto/ZN5
I say again... MEGAPIXELS DOESNT MATTER! what matters is how good is the processing and balancing of lights/colors. My 2 years old 3mp k790i can take much better pic than that =P
Come on, the quality is just crap.
Looks like a 2mp photo from a cheap chinese generic ifone clone expanded to 5MP dimensions with "canvas" effect.
Nice from kodak eh?
Anonymous, 24 Jun 2008sorry mate. There is no carl zeiss lens on this guy ad my belief is that this device does have... morethere's no dedicted kodak hardware.... kodak provides only the software for edition and for priniting online.... funny thing is, that software does not even belong to Kodak!!!! Moto's pullin another gr8 publicity stunt like it did with iTunes and the MotoROKR E2 (& RZR V3i)! Btw, the cam's pretty good- it's as good as those of SE & Nokia... Lens can't be Carl Zeiss... CZ lens are made of glass...this one's plastic (i don't know whether it'll make any difference...it performs as good as CZ branded devices) The trump in this phone's pack is its speed. It's damned quick in takin a foto and processing it. It's faster than nokia's and SE's flagships in most fotographic situations....
as of now, by looking at the photo samples, this camera phone is not even eligible for competing with nokias, SEs. It's photos are failing to capture the detail clearly. very poor MOTO.
Talk about a lack of details. That's very noisy picture. Even SE camera (which I don't like btw) produce way better picture quality. The only good thing about this camera is the colour reproduction. It looks natural and easy on the eye.
the photo not much of differents from other phones.......
time to get some popcorn and watch retarded fan boy fight
MOTOZINE ZN5
Imager = Micron
Lens = Carl Zeiss
Image pipe, perfect touch & Kodak ecosystem = KODAK
Moto has taken the best from each party... good job!!!
Anonymous, 24 Jun 2008sorry mate. There is no carl zeiss lens on this guy ad my belief is that this device does have... moreAccording to Mobile-Review, they too said there is Carl Zeiss lenses
sorry mate. There is no carl zeiss lens on this guy ad my belief is that this device does have 'some' Kodak hardware with the dedicated camera processor. Please correct me if I'm wrong?!? But to be honest moto have been busy digging themselve out of a whole to make anything themselves. You think?
