But most probably it has strong noise canceling. You can also check Bose headphones as well. They have strong noise canceling but slightly boring sound with less bass. For sound Sony is better. For noise canceling both are good.

imparanoic, 13 May 2022gather you didn't do your homework either, also my reference is walkman blog who does tea... moreWhat amuses me is how much you guys talk about codecs. Codecs make no difference in music quality whatsoever. After trying Tidal with LDAC, and comparing it with Spotify running SBC, I concluded that Tidal offers better sound purely because of better mastering. Switching codecs made no difference; It does appear that Tidal Masters is only really useful for wired audiophile headphones, preferably planar magnetics.
However, I am excited about the new driver. Considering how Sony has always used 40mm drivers, the move to a new (smaller) size will maybe mean a new flavor of sound. However, I am concerned that this will all be in vain, as MKBHD noted how the APMs are still more balanced. So, maybe this will still just be the same, albeit slightly better.
They look like another great headphone release like the previous ones, but the price jump has to stop.
50dollars more compared to the previous one,wtf Sony?
I have Anker Q20 and the only thing it cancels are the external music sounds. They cost 50 eur.
What about these? whoping 400 eur. Will it cancel human voice? Keyborad, mouse clicks?
If their ANC can cancel everything, than i suppose it is worth the money.

The hardware has to support the codec for it to work, it's why samsung never advertise their snapdragon phones or tablets support aptx hd or ldac, but after unlocking this function. it works, but on their exynos phones even if you unlock it, it can work with aptx hd or ldac, source, head fi and my s6 tab with wh-1000xm3
I read that this new XM5 has a 30mm drivers. The older XM1-4 had 40mm drivers. Don't know what material and tech is in the new 30mm one, hopefully it can deliver better sound quality than the prev gens.
Had the first WH-1 and now I use the WH-3, will wait ..
Great Headphones.
where's the earbuds version? :(
Tondern, 13 May 2022I don't think it's time to upgrade my XM3's yet, maybe next gen.XM3 is still a great headphone.. I would rather go for XM3 because they're very cheap right now and still good ..
gringo, 12 May 2022LOL, aptX is a codec and not a hardware, samsung and meditek phones use it on their phones. ch... moreAPT-X is a licensed codec.
It does require specific hardware that capable support to run the codec/compression algorithm. Since APT-X is currently owned by Qualcomm, guess which hardware support ATP-X.
If a bluetooth headphone uses non Qualcomm bluetooth chip, it won't have APTX because qualcomm monopoly.
To note, Bluetooth chip, not SoC. if that particular SoC uses qualcomm bluetooth chip it support aptx but if that SoC uses Realtek bluetooth chip, it won't support aptx.
But most Mediatek run with Realtek so the won't have aptx support. Their product like some of the Dimensity series instead using AAC LC for the high bitrate high quality audio and HE-AAC for low bitrate low lag audio.
LDAC in the other hand is Sony developed more Hi-fi bluetooth codec. its more agnostic in terms of hardware brand but its also more demanding as it is high bandwith audio codec which only higher end bluetooth hardware could run it. Thankfully most midrange to higher end phone support it.
it looks like bose and many reviewer have complaint that its less compact than it predecessor
Looks like Beats. Why Sony?
Tondern, 13 May 2022I don't think it's time to upgrade my XM3's yet, maybe next gen.Maybe for the microphone, if it's truly been improved and can be used for calls without issues. There's still the Bose QC45 to consider.

next time, don't speak too much without knowledge
If you are a basshead go for Skullcandy Crusher Evo. If you want high quality sound go for Sony. But if you want the best sound possible buy a decent wired in ear monitor and a hifi player.
Anonymous, 12 May 2022No aptX, no buyThere are using media tek chips not Qualcomm, no aptx which to be is not a big deal, but no aptx hd is a big loss, as there is still ldac, won't be a deal breaker
