Peter-B, 02 Nov 2022I think that's what the adapter is for - to convert the M mount lens to something usable ... moreSome lenses are super heavy. Mainly longer telephotos.
Cameras are much thicker, so weight balance is way better.
It's obvious why they are using M mount lenses, but man they are expensive. If I buy this phone (assuming they launch it, which they won't), I will have to look into ttartisans and 7artisans. Even voigtlander m mount lenses are expensive and they all are manual only.
Would be awesome if Sony would release an Xperia phone with a naked 1" sensor and also release a standalone version of the rx100/zv-1 lens
Peter-B, 02 Nov 2022I think that's what the adapter is for - to convert the M mount lens to something usable ... moreCrop factor indeed will be pretty significant since the sensor is very small. 35mm lens will give an equivalent focal length of around 90mm which will be very narrow for general purpose. But since telephoto is the weakness of mobile phones, it may be a blessing in disguise.

NickValok, 02 Nov 2022It's better to just carry a separate professional camera than to carry something like thi... moreThe phone can point and shoot so you don't need to carry the lenes with you everyday as same as normal people don't have DSLR with them all the time. With this concept it will take photos far better than your iphone.
WTF!? will it be the same as having a DSLR or Mirrorless?? 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ What the point having to bring an extra lens? Just use DSLR 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
It's better to just carry a separate professional camera than to carry something like this, the results of the photos on the smartphone are not as good as the real camera at all the time.
Users only use smartphone cameras to take snapshots and share them easily on social media, so they don't want to put on such a nuisance
Ah yes, Sony QX series all over again! I'd be so happy to see that concept coming back. It offers the flexibility of using proper DSLR or Mirrorless camera lens on an existing smartphone body, and I love that idea a lot!
But then again, this idea of Android-powered camera isn't new since Yongnuo had made one since 2019 with the most recent model launched last year*.

now this is really a game changers

No idea how the weight is managed tho, the lense is going to tip the setup over and make this not only weird to use, but an expensive disaster waiting to happen as well.
Just buy a pro camera if you want to use pro lenses.
YES, YES, YES !!!
This is what I've been advocating for. The phone should be able to quickly grab some great photos on Auto Mode like an iPhone when you're out and about. That's great for general life stuff as an Amateur Point'n'Shoot. But if you want to take it to the next level, you can slap on a professional lens, and use the Manual Mode. Then spend several minutes preparing and taking Professional Shots. And it should come with several options from 360', Fish Eye, Ultrawide, Zoom, Long-range Telescopic, and Macro.
You do NOT need to compromise in one area (Auto Mode/Amateur), to make improvements in another area (Manual Mode/Professional).

Huge lenses for FF... moreI think that's what the adapter is for - to convert the M mount lens to something usable on the 1" sensor. There will probably be some crop factor involved, but there's no info on that.
Also, Xiaomi specifically notes that the frame of the phone has been reinforced to account for the lens mount.
Interesting but how will it attach to it in this form ? It be weird when you need to hold it and then get blur-fest. How well this lens will attach to the phone with magnets ? It's pretty big
Nice
In the end , it would not work unless proper lenses for 1" are used.
Huge lenses for FF cameras on phones would be too heavy and break the mount.
It can happen to cameras, despite being too rare.
