HTC failed in many ways in today's smartphone war. Below are possible reasons:
#associated with overpriced and poor sound headphone maker like BEATS electronics
#very poor naming convention such as Butterfly, OneX, One.....etc
#poor battery life
#very thick profile and heavy
#no breakthrough features like Samsung or Apple or LG
#poor camera just 4MP in latest HTC ONE
#poor speaker sound
#use average Audio DAC CHIP unlike Samsung or Apple use the best DAC Chip like Wolfson or Cirrus Logic
# very boring HTC sense User Interface
It is amazing in my opinion how best phones are ridiculously bad marketed. HTC's marketing is not the best in many levels,
(a) Their names aren't stick like for instance "Galaxy", and when they create a family "One" (for instance) the sequence is ONE +, plus, V SV, X and some cryptological designations.
(b) Their events are boring, its CEO isn't the best guy to introduce their phones;
(c) Its site is not charming.
(d) "Smart mobility" were miles ahead of "quietly brilliant".
At this point, HTC is great to manufacture of other's phone, unless they change almost everyone taking decisions in marketing.
Last year's One series were very good but overpriced. This year they only have One flagship that isn't competitive against the competition :-( They should totally stick with a strategy of covering the whole range of price markets.
Another thing is their marketing. It's a tradition that their phones are pretty good overall but have poor cameras compared to their competition and yet their marketing team keeps on focusing on things that their phones do poorly! Last year it was so ridiculous that they marketed their series for their cameras and audio which were really mediocre, instead of focusing on build quality, display quality, design etc which were very good. This year also - we can clearly see that the One's camera doesn't compare well even with average competition, yet they focus on nothing but the camera!
The average guy who cares about camera quality will buy that phone, see that the camera is crap and will tell friends that they're disappointed with it. Instead a person who values the experience of a decent overall smartphone will go elsewhere because HTC don't market the phone for him, even though it might be exactly a phone for that type of person.
The phone surely packs much superior features and yet even me, a tech geek wouldn't know much about them if I didn't browse through the specs.
If you scream to the world about a specific feature that your phone isn't great at the world will think that it's the best you have. Just be quiet about the camera, everyone knows that people don't buy HTC phones for their cameras. Just improve them quietly because any attention to that will only cause harm to your sales. Market other things like the best performing CPU so far, good quality unibody design, great display for a LCD etc. etc.
Htc one has poor battery and poor camera...
NOt removable battery...
UGLY MADE OF METAL TOO EASY OVER HEATING...
2013 is for LG PHONES...
The restrictive specifications don't bode well for a _flagship_ phone. You can't really market a phone with a stingy storage and memory, no SD slot and irreplaceable battery as a flagship product and expect people to buy into it, unless you're Apple which I think also will lose on it in the long run.
Moreover, they cease to provide updates for their phones which basically means that they don't give a sh!t about their customers once they have bought their products.
Off course.apple sales too,is a bad month for sales anywhere on earth.what news is this?
1. Never call a device, 'Butterfly'.
2. Let your flagship be your flagship for at least 6 months. Sensation, Amaze, Sensation XL, OneX, OneX+, Droid DNA. Get a grip!
3. Choose a name for your flagship & STICK WITH IT. It's called name-recognition.
4. The One is excellent, but why would you name it the same as a less-fancy, but fancier sounding device?
5. HTC should fire its marketing department now.
Htc bring 5 inch hd screen phone like samsung galaxy grand in 20k inr target
it is obvious that Samsung will launch s4 with such a features which will dominates the one
The htc should launch an update after launching of Samsung which should at least turn the table
they need to look at the after sales service and pricing.in india the service centers are mostly in big cities
HTC has Really very Poor Marketing Strategy If I talk
About my Area 1-2 Out Of 100 Only know the HTC Brand
Even Some time i Shocked when airtel or any other carrier Customer services ask About my Phone and 90% of them do not know about HTC
they think that it is local phone as they are not aware of HTC Due to Poor Marketing
I also Told lot of guys HTC is Also A good brand like Nokia as i am also using HTC since more then 2 yrs
htc put ads in TV
i am from India
their phones are expensive if you buy it unlock, they dont have nothing exclusive to offer and i think their behind in technology.
in the other hand google nexus is kicking ass, cheap is up to date and nice desing...
small fault can smock all big advantage..
HTC is best sample of it..
every thing is best among the other like screen, sound, build quality,ui & ...
but 3 number of most fault:
3)battary(with no removable)but in one buttery seems to be enough but it could more when people cant distinct btw li-ion & li-po that use in iphone 5 and take high score..
android need to htc for all service and innovation..
love u htc but plz change your marketing.
poor speed of updates (and the month long wait for it when it is released) dont help. took the One X ages to catch up with the S3 (4.1) and the S3 is far better imo (from an avid HTC consumer) Also having a battery in the 1X that is tiny didnt help. Roll on Nokia building an Android phone and re-dominating I say.
HTC Phones these days are to restricted, no sd card slot, there battery life is poor and you cant remove the battery from the device.
I have got a Galaxy S2 and due for an upgrade. But i really like the HTC specs, especially the US phones, they are on par with galaxy series, infact there are some features which the galaxy phones lag like the superb Beats audio and the headphones. They have the FM radio which saves you a lot of data if you use the online FM apps. I am gonna get the HTC one.
Agreed, htc never get market feedback from user. We want removable battery, SD card slot and power button at right side.
none on the ONE!
Perhaps decreasing the price of their products a bit would help. People buy Samsung because Samsung can lower the price of their plastic phones. Apple manages to sell its expensive products through hype and marketing. But companies like HTC, Sony, Motorola who have neither of these suffer.
Its multi layered approach which they need to take and implement it like Marines do, no democracy, no debate, just simply orders to be followed by the team from the leader,
I suggest the following
1) get the product configuration right mainly battery and card slot
2) get the pricing right, higher pricing does not make you to exclusive club
3)Revisit distributor chains talk sense and regain their confidence and trust (I can prove nobody wants to sell HTC phones even if buyers are there shopkeepers would outrightly deny availability and encourage purchase of other brand)
4) ensure that launch date and timings are well thought of, not like this, you have declared HTC one, not launched it and Samsung is there biting your butt with S4
I am sure CEO's and Chief Marketing officers of HTC does not have time to read such posts but they should do it and act deligently
