While most people do own Motorola products probably at least once in their lifetime.
Indeed, Motorola is a company making "communication products", and if its mobile division is still No.3 in terms of sales, its commercial division probably dominates the market MUCH MUCH MORE than what the almighty brand does in the moboile phone sector.
Just think about how it took YEARS for the almighty company to even come out with a 3G handset with tocuhscreen technology, or a phone which support the simple mini-USB charging, or how the brand emphasizing much on "connecting people" can't even make video-call standard on its 3G phones...

Would you revive Dolorean if they made cars that looked like the Fiat Pinto in the last 3 years of their survival? I guess not, cause by then their reputation would already hve been stained.
Nobody will remember Motorola as the big innovator after the turn of the century, but everbody will remember Dolorean as the beauty it was and is.
And frankly, if you do study economics, then you will know that at this rate and development, taking a break from this competetive business right now means never coming back, cause you will be to far left behind.
Why would anyone invest in a dead mobile company and start from scratch in a business that is one of the most competetive in the world, there are many far better investment opportunities in the in this branch.
wow! its amazing to read different opinions and speculations about motorola. Makes me think that motorola company is like Jerusalem, A citadel under siege by many people who wants to see this Giant Company Die or just fade away and never to exist. Well that could happened but as ive said that is all just specualtions. And if it could happened, chances are it will always make a come back. If you study economics and understand how the consumer behave, youll begin to think it will bounce back or dive or fluctuate or whatever... But if it die this year or the next? still it will have a chance to make a comeback. Remember the car in back to the future the Delorean car? it went bankcrupt ages ago... but it was revived by a millionaire and they started from the beginning and adding new stuff like fiber glass and aluminum chassi and few stuff you wouldn't care. The point is children... This company may die or survive, and the best we can do is speculate, defend and raise the banner as proud motorola owners, or attack with full force and enjoy it die a fierce death in the Global Market.
Anonymous, 05 Sep 2008Gregory, i think the statistics ur trying to boast to everyone here are information from more ... morehey.. do you eat some kinda special cereal in the morning to be able to talk so much crap like you do? you are all over Motorola threads just talking crap about how innovative Motorola is.
You have 3 choices, 1. You are a complete Nincompoop 2. You work for Motorola (same as option 1 actually) 3. You sniff industrial glue 4. What will it be? I totally agree with GSM arena, there is no reason to do reviews on phones that belongs in a museum.
3G was not developed by GSM companies, it was developed as a own platform by a Japanese company, the one mentioned before, and not by your precious Motorola, the GSM platform phones was later added to what we today call 3G phones, not the other way around.
In a year or so there will no longer be GSM phones, so they should probably rename this site.
And of course they don't have a review of the first Japanese 3G phone, i don't even think GSMarena existed back then, and this is a site for reviews of products going massmarket, not a national Japanese brand.

1) Firstly, Motorola has already announced for Q2 they have managed to stem the bleeding and made a small profit this time round which means its mobile division is improving and the outlook for Q3 and Q4 is , it will be profitable and its sales will increase.
2) Secondly for all that talk ur saying about Sony Ericsson doing extremely well? Didn't you just read a recent article a few days ago about Sony's CEO acknowledging the company is experiencing poor sales and does not rule out the possibility of buying out its partner in business or spinning off the division if its sales figures are still not up to standard for the next few quarters?
So, Please do not Cut and Paste your expired information which u have Googled via the net to try to impress us when u have just done the perfect opposite. LOL
why is this "Anonymous" character going around different Motorola threads and talkning like Motorola did everything? Stop talking crap! The first 3G network and handset was released and built by the Japanese company NTT DoCoMo, and was called N900iG. The same company is the founder of the new 4G.
The first flip phone was made by GTE in 1970 and held and even have a trademark on it, which went hand in hand with the inspiration of Star Trek gadgets, GTE flip phones was around til 1993, and Motorola released the first flip phone called StarTak in 1996 (wonder where they got the name and the design?).
There are so many other things this "Anonymous" character claims that Motorola have done, which is just a bunch o lies, i'm not gonna write everything down here, but these were just examples of what Motorola hasn't done.
last time i checked Motorola had their production line in Shenzhen, China, not USA
Open your phones and check under the battery and you will probably feel disturbed.
Who says Motorolas innovation is sellng record handsets? that it rubbish talk.. just last month Motorola was going bankrupt and offered the company to Ericsson, Samsung and LG who all rejected it.
"Motorola's handset division recorded a loss of $1.2 billion in the fourth quarter of 2007, while the company as a whole earned $100 million during that quarter. It lost several key executives to rivals and its products have shown no sign of improvement, still remaining repetitive and uninnovative. Motorola laid off 3,500 workers in January 2008, followed by a further 4,000 job cuts in June and another 20% cut of its research division a few days later. In July 2008, a large number of executives left Motorola to work on Apple Inc.'s iPhone. Facing bankruptcy, the company has been put on offer for sale to several other major rivals such as Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics and Sony Ericsson, yet all have rejected the offer. In July 2008, analyst Mark McKechnie from American Technology Research said that Motorola "would be lucky to fetch $500 million" for selling its handset business and analyst Richard Windsor said that Motorola might have to pay someone to take the division off the company and that the company may even exit the handset market altogether. Its global market share has been continuously on the decline; from 18.4% of the market in 2007, it had a share of just 9.7% by 2008"
And all Moto lovers that says Ericsson is going down is talkning nonsense, they just have up their game to be the best they can be, cause they actually have rivals, unlike some other company we know, still without Sony, only Ericsson alone has a market value of approx 78 billion dollars, which is far more then the 0.9 billion dollars Motorola offered Ericsson to buy Motorola off.
Wow, are all of you people even know what you're talking about? This Motorola phone is targeted at a specific audience, NOT for everyone. If you think that it's ugly, lacking in features and pointless to sell, then you're too ignorant. Not everyone here has the same mind as you. You just have to accept the fact that your concept of "beauty" is not the same as another persons'.
And as for the comments against people who "bash" GSMArena, please understand their opinions. They are complaining because they feel the forum is not that "fair" anymore in reviewing phones. As you may notice, most phones beingreviewed today are from Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Samsung, HTC, and others. It's very rare to see a Motorola phone being even in the headlines, let alone the reviews.
Many Motorola phones are really worthy to be reviewed. SOme of these are:
ROKR E8 - With unique haptics technology, ModeShift ability, exceptional call and music clarity, the E8 didn't get the CES Awards for best phone and the CES People's Voice award for nothing. Its music capabilities even outmatch the Apple iPod in terms of quality and ease of control.
RIZR Z10 - This upgrade to the Z8 boasts a 3.2 MP autofocus camera and excellent multimedia capabilities. Its updated Symbian UIQ makes the phone very functional and stylish at the same time.
ZINE ZN5 - Thanks to the partnership with imaging leader Kodak, the ZN5 is equipped with a Kodak 5 MP autofocus camera which rivals and even surpasses the mighty Nokia N82 in terms of camera quality. This is the most worthy of a review from Motorola in my opinion due to its unique camera features such as RAW mode, Kodak Perfect Touch technology and powerful processing capabilities.
moto may have introduced so so much into the mobile world but when was the last time they produced a handset that people liked
z3:-released too early
e8:-what the hell
moto should get out ofthe mobile world theres just no point in them being here!
I see a Nokia killer in this phone. It may not have the features, but boy is that a beautiful phone. Motorola have always had the best looking phones out there.
Well, I might be attracted by that phone if this Jewel come to Asia. It's a beauty. Why only in UK?
hey moto u guys are fabolous
i'll buy this phone very soon
i lovin itz shape and i'll gift it to my sis thank you.
Anonymous, 05 Sep 2008Many people keep commenting that Motorola is falling, but its cheap mid to low-end phones like... moreAgree companies with hi-end only phones like HTC will never likely reach top 5 in terms of sales volume...
Anonymous, 05 Sep 2008Everyone knows moto is struggling with the cell phone department...well when you keep releasin... moreBcoz ppl like u who can afford 10 x N95 are NOT the target customers of Moto anymore.
There are many many others out there...including ladies (no offense), people with low-income on pre-paid service, developing countries, etc...who do NOT need all the hi-tech stuff...Wifi and GPS and all these other things are meaningless to them.
Even the almighty brand's prism series aren't exactly hi-tech either, any comment?
