Some perfect compact smartphone specs:
> 4" 367ppi 16:9 720p Screen (Super-AMOLED plus preferred) with scratch resistance. If Samsung can implement the flexible screen into a phone soon, WIN-WIN!!
> Polycarbonate casing (but no hyperglaze finish) with long lasting finish, removable battery, SD and SIM hot-swappable with slots protected by battery cover.
> An 8MP Quality camera (focus on Image quality, not on having tonnes of pixels which a human eye cant even notice) with powerful dual LED flash, ability to capture full HD videos at 30 FPS with great stabilization features. 1080p front camera.
> Exynos 5 Octa at BIG1.6ghz/Little1.2GHz with 2GB RAM (Android)
> Exynos 5 Octa at BIG1.2GHz/Little1GHz with 2GB RAM (For any other OS that doesn't rely on a VM)
> 7MM thin, slim bezel, weight around 100g with battery
> Depending on the OS, battery should be able to provide at least a day and a half of juice

nobody thought abt the ZL... its not as compact as a iphone.. but its slightly smaller than the galaxy s3, still packing a bigger(5") screen, and has same specs as a xperia Z + hardware shutter + IR blaster. i dont know why gsmarena is siply IGNORING the xperia ZL :(
Anonymous, 16 Apr 2013HTC One is compact? Please, Galaxy S4 is the same size, even thinner, and pack a larger screen... moreWe pack food and soda drinks in Aluminium.
We make Bullet proof glass windows, windscreens, cockpits, and an endless list of security fixtures used in Banks, military etc, with Poly-carbonate.
I think the market leading android makers like sony and samsung should think about affordable, midrange smartphone with good hardware as lumia 520/620 have, under rs 15000inr specially for asian and african market. I will expect that sony and sam will think about it and it will come very soon.

And for all you "wee" handed people upset about the big phones, how do you think us large handed people felt with all the tiny phones around for the past decade?
It's about time they made something that doesn't look like I'm talking into chocolate bar.
My big handed brothers and sisters! Our time is now! Enjoy it while it lasts as the small hand people are trying to keep us down once again!
Anonymous, 16 Apr 20134.2 best sizeI like 4,4 16:10 of my Meizu MX2 with Smartbar
But if you cut off 1680x945 from 1920x1080 5'' it will be 4,375'' - that's an ideal M size.
Or alternatively 4,49'' with 16:10 1680x1050. But that's quite big already - M+.
AnonD-132351, 16 Apr 2013A dream mid range phone from samsung (s4mini) Processor dual 1.6 cortex a15 2gb ram Exynos... more"SGS IV" mini has quite mediocre specs with high prices. It's not SGS IV and doesn't have anything to do with it. That's Ace 4 and Samsung just fooling people with it.
Hang on... I thought nobody liked the iPhone 5's smaller size? Isn't a 5 inch screen innovative?

Imran, 16 Apr 2013Totally agree I want to upgrade my note to note 2 ,just not buying because of sizeNote 2 is more comfortable to handle than the note....because of it's 16:9 ratio unlike 4:3 ratio on original note ..

Htc one is worst when it comes to compactness...
I will propose another petition: one that asks Samsung to not drop FM radio on Galaxy S AND Galaxy Note lines.
A dream mid range phone from samsung (s4mini)

Smartphones are getting updated with higher end hardwares.. well thats a must. but why they are getting bigger and bigger!? not only because they require better and bigger displays but also they are getting more and more power-hungry. its not only better and bigger screens which makes the manufacturers to increase the size of their smartphones but also the need for bigger and bigger batteries. The hardware requirements which you mentioned cant get into a phone with that size or you would not have a satisfying daily battery endurance. Just take a look at the smartphones battery capacities since 5 years ago till now and how its getting bigger and bigger. I mean for a high end power hungry phone with decent hardware specifications, bigger means better battery life which is already an issue even for the big sized phones out there already let alone mid-sizers...
i have a lumia 800. it fits perfectly in my hand. best set ever i had. not too small not too big
