Apple's marketing team deserves praise, but I don't think it's a necessity to buy Apple products in a time where hardware is dirt cheap, and there are plenty of devices that serve the purpose of calling, social media and internet connectivity in a small package

The physical ones are better, true, but nowadays are found only in some mid-range or lower end phones. In display fingerprint readers are slower and not all the time work (and I had Samsung A series, Note series and S series in past).
The fastest in display fingerprint readers I used were on OnePlus phones. Still, Face ID works faster and better. Of course, the notch or display island is too intrusive when watching video content, but that's another discussion.

Anonymous, 06 Jan 2024Face ID is more secure than fingerprint. Give it up. They ain't doing fingerprints again. Lol. But there are situations that using fingerprints are way more convenient than face unlock, or even that only your fingers are available at the moment but not your face. This one more option is not just a preference but a necessity.

This is why we never see TouchID and FaceID together in one device, even on supposedly more powerful hardware like ipads and Macs. And it's by design as Apple wanted FaceID to replace TouchID on iPhone, not to supplement it.
