Anonymous, 25 Jun 2013Bad news for cheap plastic lovers. How about the fact that aluminum is 2x times cheaper than plastic:
Plastic price is around 3.6 $ / KG
Aluminum price is around 1.8 $ / KG

And because it's way more effective than aluminum or glass. Aluminum is heavier, bulkier, more costly, usually means no removable battery/sd slot, less malleable, scratches horrifically, dings, dents, and is less heat savvy.
Glass, shatters, is heavier, bulkier, more costly, usually means no removable battery/sd slot, less malleable, can be scratch resistant/but more prone if it's the entire casing, and is less heat savvy.
[deleted post]Actually the rumor is that they are going for carbon fiber, not Kevlar. Kevlar would be a better option, but let's face facts: Samsung has for years had trouble with making devices that look too much like others. And we've seen many law suits. So a design that would look too much like Motorola's RAZR line-up would not be good for them right now.
Still, the appearance of carbon fiber and kevlar is very very similar. To be sure, sammy probably have to skip the soft touch, and have it to be a hard back.
Btw I don't get your passion for plastic (polycarbonate). The most important factors for phone use are better with aluminium. High grade aluminium has better stiffness to weight, tensile strenght to weight, not too mention ultimate tension strength. The only benefit of plastic is cost of production, easier and cheaper to melt, mold and re-melt.
Be happy that your favourite phone manufacturer will finally move towards better materials for the phone's housing.
Samsung copied the idea again from Apple. As usual Samsung knows how to copy ideas but no invention.
Samsung Carbon S (2013)
Samsung Titanium S (2014)
Samsung URANIUM S (2015)
fanboys will praise whatever material their beloved brands have and criticise the same material other brands have.
I'm not a fan of Samsung, but considering your idea about creating carbon fiber galaxies, i might switch to Samsung.

The only ones i really agree with are the campaigns against Crapple, but those speak for themselves. It's not pointless like the rest.
I don't know what's wrong with this world but by each passing day people seem to expose more and more insanity.
How nice would it be if companies would congratulate each others for their success instead of trolling each other.
Nokia should have said to Samsung something like this: "It wasn't for us to be on the top all the time so we congratulate you Samsung for taking the lead and making such great products that please the users".
That's how the things should be and not how they are today.
Yeah I find that trolls have reached the level of insanity bragging all day long about a 2 cents aluminum phone cover, I mean how ridiculous is that ? praising the value of 2 cents ? ROTFL :))))))))))))))))))))
What a ridiculous way to start the page. Because of the One? Yes if Samsung ever uses different materials it will only be because of the One. That makes so much logical sense.
Leryc, 24 Jun 2013are you sure they used carbon fiber? i believe it was kevlar.. give me a moto phone that used ... moreYep, kevlar, though it looks a bit like carbon. http://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_razr_maxx-review-800p2.php
Carbon fiber generally uses plastic as substrate, but is better than policarbonate.
