Maybe they will be releasing with metal panels for a premium price and another with same specs but with plastic panels for a cheaper option... which sounds like Apple to me.
I used to have wave2. It's made of metal and feels very sturdy and elegant. But yes the problems with metal phone are it is slippery and the pain CHIPPED after several months use.
My points are:
1. Plastic or polycarbonate is not a cheap material
2. The quality of a device is not defined by what it is made of
3. Samsung CAN make a metal phone and HAVE made it before it was cool
samsung should get rid of hardware home key which is really boring like in iphones.
Anonymous, 30 Aug 2013Samsung uses cheap parts to build their phones. My 4 Samsung phones broke over a year. It is s... moreyeah but you bought 4 right? please go lie somewhere else, just a samsung hater lying.
I don't know ask HTC ONE designer or Sony Xperia Z designer, wait, "screen is rectangular with small bezels" soo they look all just the same right?
It's hight time samsung moved to metal OR glass. I don't care about removable battery! microSD slot can exist in unibody designs just like sony did with xperia Z. What bothers me is that while for example the S4 is a unique device for its amoled screen and exceptionally good battery life, paying such a price for plastic and FAUX metal is not acceptable. It's a pity because the galaxy s line has the most slippery glass of all screens and you can tell samsung is capable of good quality. Anyway A GOOD EXAMPLE OF METAL PHONES FORM SAMSUNG IS THE WAVE LINE... WHICH ARE GREATLY BUILT AND GORGEOUS!
Anonymous, 31 Aug 2013Expect non removable battery and sd card slot.. :)I hope not the unibody design and lack of removable battery, and sd slot are the main reasons people are turning away from HTC in my opinion

Again! This gives a sleep ...
It would be interesting to be Kevlar.
Samsung, it is about time you ditched your plastic smartphones for better hardware like carbon fibre or aluminium.

Anonymous, 30 Aug 2013not true. i use S3 but i wish S5 will have premium metalic feel. If not, I will change to Sony... moreActually...what I said is true. Although in air-quotes, you should have noticed my use of the term "fanboys" and in them defending plastic. So if you do not consider yourself a "fanboy" or defend them then the statement does not apply to you now does it?
Besides, from your comments one is left to assume that you use a Samsung device but you are not a supporter. So again, my statement does not apply to you.
AnonD-164438, 30 Aug 2013Fair enough, they should give more. But it's not their customers that are complaining. As m... moreNo, I'm a Samsung fan, not fanboy just like their products but want different material.Anyway I think we have the same point of view, we just express it different. And the point is that manufacturers are slowing their progress and overpricing their products
looks like samsung have finally taken i left out of apple and gone for a metal case, pity the samsung ones will still look crap!!!!!!!!!!!!
The screen is rectangular. With small bezels and thinner phones, how much room is left for design ?
