Threaded replies in WhatsApp will finally bring structure to messy group chats. This feature ensures every reply stays linked to its original message, making conversations easier to follow. Tapping to view threads may reduce clutter, offering a cleaner UI. Technically, it improves message indexing and paves the way for smarter conversation handling.

I think this would be quite disorienting and it's best if they left it the way it is right now.

It is still excellent for formal communication. I've never seen or experiences formal communication (other than online sales) by Whatsapp or other IM app. You can communicate with your co-workers as much as you want by IM, but this also is worn out since the corona virusa times. People are sick of IM messages. I've turned off all notifications for IM apps. You have threaded e-mail in gmail, and similar way of organizing e-mail in outlook.

In my organisation, we use whatsapp groups to communicate quickly. We have seperate groups for each department or a project. Only thing lacking is threaded messages. We are struggling to track the old references every time. It may not replace the email as a whole. But it will change the way we communicate and emails will be used only for most important things.
