I've been using my xperia s for almost 2 years now and to be honest, at first the photo quality of the 12mp camera is not outstanding but after each software updates released by sony the photo quality improves and now it's superb. Even taking photos inside a dimmed light restaurant it still produced an outstanding image quality.

You just have to admit that Lumia 1020 isn't very good unless you zoom in and study fine details. Which isn't very realistic for normal users.
If half of the low light performance of Z1 is true it's still gonna win.
I was expecting more from Z1 cam quality. Since Sony used their G-lens on it. And there's the BIONZ technology. Feels Sony can't fine tuned their own hardware.
Let's just wait for the retail unit if there's changes with the quality.

Camera suxs bad. Sad thing is ppl is going to buy it. Ah Mess!!
Actually, looking at the sample pictures it does look amazing and natural. It does have some noise but the question here is how did gsm arena took the picture and what settings they've used. We can't judge xperia z1's photo quality this early considering that the unit being used is not yet the final release.
Oh this is was going to be the world best camera phone in 2014 ?
Seeing the photos .... Ahh just another camera phone quality photos .. with super hyped marketing gimmicks and useless features (stink-shot ... it takes a shot when u fart)
I WILL PASS!
AnonD-118519, 05 Sep 2013Fortunately we see lots of negative comments!
It shows Sony is becoming a real threat for oth... moreOr just that people were expecting better quality.
Not that it's bad and it's not finalized yet, but I'm a little worried. Most others are too.
Considering we know how generally others can make better use of Sony's camera in their own devices with better tuned software it does not look promising.
However again...we will have to wait and see when the final product is released. Even then it's quite possible to see further improvement through software udate...
As it stands though. If we see little to no improvement then this was just a marketing gimmick and wasted pixels.

If you are talking about this link: http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/legal/testresults/xperia-z1/#camera-overall by any chance than this is the most obvious comparison I have ever seen. Wrong and biased comparison. Lumia 1020 is better but the site termed it as the worst overall. LOL even it said, iPhone 5 is better than 1020.....

Low light, color reproduction, backlit objects, those 3 victories goes to Z1. About noise and detail, looks promising, considered these are probably iso 6400.
The full res photo seems handshake damaged. OIS would have been desirable in some cases, that's a win for Nokia.
There was this other sample shot in the z1 hands on article on this site taken in full daylight. That shot was very good almost no noise even when zoomed in.
SO just like any sensor, the z1's cam needs a lot of light to perform well.
Im all for the z1 but i just noticed it's too long (maybe because of the large bottom bezel) longer than a note 2 and 3.
I fear it wont fit in my jean's pocket without it peeping out.
The other problem is when i sit down. Might put a lot of pressure on the phone weakening the glass after a long time of repeated sittings.
This is why i couldnt use the note 2 as an everyday phone.
I cant use cargo pants all the time in my work you see.

To get a really steady shot, you had to hold the device veryyy steadily because of low light environment. The camera counts for lower shutter speed for more lights come in to the sensor. That's why it's a bit noisy and blurry. That is the same for all smartphones if they dont turn on the flash. You may open your eyes if the devices is taken outside where sunlight shines, this 20.3 MP will make you feel the real performance of Z1.
Why i would say that? Because on my vacation with my family, my sister use her Xperia V 13MP camera to catch all the moments. She capture Great Wall and other scenery. The result are so good so great color range and that's really proof how great a 13MP is.
AnonD-134497, 05 Sep 2013Unless it's a PureView2. lets see what 20 mpx nokia phablet is upto
Definitely just staying with my Xperia z.. I will wait for Xperia z2

nothing will beat the pureview cameras
Noise level is a bit disappointing. Overall, excellent work Sony.
You can see a "maze" pattern when viewing on pixel level and it's ruining all the fine details. Poor processing :(
