I think it is quite important to realize what the use case is for many people. With wireless Ready for / desktop mode there is issues of latency. I use my flip smartphone as an "easy to carry" office. When traveling I only carry my smartphone and a rollable keyboard. I use the front screen as a trackpad and a hotel TV as the monitor. When doing presentations I use what ever projector the facility might have. Often projectors and hotel TV's are old and if they support wireless conectins, they are often slow. The same is the case for projectors. Having wired setup is a must in those cases. Many people don't realize that our smartphones often have the same or better specs. then our laptops. I acces my full office computer through citrix. It works like a dream, but not when I only have the option of running wireless "ready for". Therefore it is a shame that motorola ditched the wired option.
Moto Dragon, 15 Apr 2025Why do you want Motorola to go backwards? It's never going to happen who wants wired Smar... moreI definitely do. Wireless Desktop Mode, whether Motorola's Smart Connect or Samsung's DeX, can suffer from latency issues when going intensive and can only go up to 30Hz. Plus, in the case of Smart Connect, you can't even have a 4K screen resolution when going wireless.

8s Gen 3 is hardly an upper-midrange SoC. Nevertheless, it's a welcome move to directly rival Xiaomi's upcoming Mix Flip 2 and Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Z Flip7. I just hope Motorola put back USB3 with wired video output and wired Smart Connect support, like they did with 2022 Razr.

Games that will be throttled right out the gate? Makes no dollars and sense to the target audience really.
Best to use a 7 core 8 Elite or maybe Moto Ready their Smasung Dex desktop equivalent (losely stated & believed to be true) may benefit but again if throttled that'll really kill the desktop experience.
Samsung Flip 6 has a great VC and runs within their peak testing of 71 Celsius as read on Android Authirury (including. Believe but they never shipped it enabled.
So againi ask what the point?

My god if this phone is in fact using g the 8 core 8 Elite then gads throttle city!!

In the CPU stress test, performance dropped to 200 GIPS after 2 Minutes on that phone.
For comparison, the Snap 675 in my 2019 Motorola one zoom reaches 180 GIPS but it lasts like that forever.
A flagship CPU in a flip phone does give Ultra performance for a good 2 Minutes before it turns 5 Years old the moment you run a game for longer than a few Minutes.
The 8 Elite is a really efficient chip on the lower end as well so I hope this phone maintains at least half of its performance and only ages 2 to 3 Years when you open a game.

A flip phone is never Ultra in performance, The Snap 8Elite can draw as much as 28W in an Emulator.
However, Flip phones already overheat when going over 3W power draw. So an Flagship chipset is sort of pointless in a flip phone.

If it was $699, then sure, put in a cheaper SoC.
Anonymous, 14 Apr 2025"Big" flagship chips? Is this a joke?It doesn't feel right to put such a chip and then throttle it severely while the prices of chips have shot up. It is better of course even when throttled but the difference is not huge. The gains advertised are at peak power.
I need to know about the Motorola Edge 60 Ultra

These are still hard to find for some reason, can't just pickup and unlocked version from Amazon or Best buy and I'm in North America.
Don't they have space constraint in flip-style foldable? Why are they using big flagship chips? Something like the exynos 1580 but made by TSMC and lower price should be fine?
