Android may take the Symbian way...unless Google reinvents a fresher system.
I rather use a Windows Phone than a Samsung phone. (though currently I don't use either of them)
Android is a dying breed. It's laggy, malware infested, and extremely buggy. Good to see WP is gaining traction.
Have you ever used a windows device? WP is most creative simple and its the fastest OS right now.I was bored with my android week after buying! But WP8 not like that!only problem of WP8 is no systemwide file manager!
I dont mind WP at all..
But agree that is just BS to say there is no room for another competitor.
It's just tech journalist claims... at the end, it's more about products than OS.
The average buyer knows little about OSes, are not locked in to ecosystem (genereally have few paid apps, and most of them they will never download again in their new device anyway).
So if resellers starts to push for products with other OSes, or if there are some really cool attention grabbing products, of course there is a chance for a 3rd and 4th, probably even 5th OS in the market.
recent trends also have a shift toward mobile sites over apps for many serices, and those are fully usable on multiple OS devices, instead of just the one the app was made for.
It won't last too much until Ms/Nokia becomes the third big player (thanx to Nokia). When Wp gets out of beta it might do it to the first.
Anonymous, 01 Oct 2013That's right. nokia should wise up and put out an android already. You can run Anroid on the N9... But aren't there already enough Android devices!?
What about Jolla and the Sailfish OS (with it's Android App compatibility)!? ;)
Anonymous, 30 Sep 2013Wp has become a joke! The only company which trusted it, now its bankrupt! Lol. Thats why samm... moreLol... So many ignorant people in the net.
Maybe BB is, but Nokia is not bankrupt at all...
Nokia is selling the non-profitable part (D&S) of the company and will retain NSN, HERE and Advanced Technologies. ;)
Anonymous, 30 Sep 2013Wp has become a joke! The only company which trusted it, now its bankrupt! Lol. Thats why samm... moreThere's a difference between bankrupt and sold. Blackberry is going bankrupt. Nokia was sold. This news just proves the otherwise. Their investment in WinPhone is paying off. If android, or another platform would have been better is a different question. Their profits, share price, and sales figures show what the consumers, investors, and partners think of their strategy.
AnonD-92769, 30 Sep 2013Android has nothing new to show us in future. It's hardware dependent platform(2GB of ram, 2GH... moreSo android has nothing to show new acc to you?? Good! Android eco system is far better than wp8 fyi. And windows os was there even before android. So its not immature.
For me WP 8, iPhone 6&7 and BlackBerry 10 are all good and solid OS. All of them do the job properly. I had troubles only with Android driven phones. I am sceptical about Android phones because mine (two expensive ones) are prone to lagging, freezing, overheating, drying fast the battery, etc.
AnonD-105173, 30 Sep 2013The lack of apps is literally killing the platform..What specific apps do you mean? Do you even have a windows phone?
Windows Phone doesn't appeal to techies because it's more restrictive than iOS and uncustomisable.
Windows Phone doesn't appeal to gamers because there's barely any apps for it.
Windows Phone doesn't appeal to the elderly because it's a 'smartphone' which isn't simple.
Windows Phone barely appeals to kids because Apple are the king of cool in that domain.
Windows Phone doesn't appeal to business users because it looks childish and there are far more reputable, reliable business phones out there.
Windows Phone doesn't appeal to PC users because it's nothing like a PC, despite the name 'Windows'.
