Anonymous, 22 Oct 2013in a few dollars more you can have a crappy, laggy Android that hangs and force close too much... moreGet an Alcatel Fierce: quad core, 1GB RAM, 4.5" screen, 4G, GPS, Android 4.2, etc. You can get-it for $150 (About 110 EUR today).
Do not forget, Nokia told us to forget about Symbian application!
And - Nokia/Microsoft have done it again.
The 501 was launched in May of this year. While purchasing the 501, we were told that WhatsApp would be launched in a month or two. And now, these new phones will have the capabilites inbuilt, while early suckers like us will have to wait till next year for the same. Why, Nokia, why? Are we second class citizens now?
Also, we still do not have the ability to sync the contacts from the cloud. I dont think anyone relishes the idea of moving their contacts from phone to phone via some sharing app, they would prefer to sync from Google/Microsoft services online.
I think rather than jumping on the new phones bandwagon, please, fix your own issues. The 501 has more problems/issues than just these two. I dont want to delve into the battery problems I am plagued with, nor the re entering of my long WiFi password every several days.
This is akin to Microsoft leaving the WP7.5 users in the cold.
Wow this "ice layer" is just ghastly.
It wil be another flop device just as the previous nokia's
there are tones of phones available with similar features, people only buy nokia for its brand value, which is decreasing by the minute.
AnonD-181710, 22 Oct 2013Remember everyone. Its Microsoft not Nokia. They(Microsoft) are just using its(Nokia) name. No, it's still Nokia. Until the shareholder's have voted to allow MS to acquire it's mobile division it's not a done deal.
Debb, 22 Oct 2013OK fine ... how about 3" screen and 133 ppi resolution ... come on, this is AD 2K+13 and ... morewell, I agree that the screen is lackluster.. It should be at least 3.5inch at 220ppi..
but then this phone is less than $100.. you cant expect it to have the best spec..
I have the Asha 500 - it's a great little phone with very good performance given it has minimal specs. It's perfect for doing outdoors stuff and you don't want to worry about trashing your expensive phone.
Looking to getting the 503 and giving the 500 to my brother.
The Asha 1.0 platform is very good. Funny reading some of the comments; do you really need Android on everything?
Yet more proof that Nokia has turned things around and that Microsoft needs them more than they need Micro$oft. Hope the Nokia shareholders vote down the acquisition.
entry level android phones like galaxy young and ls l3 are very ugly, plus you'll have headaches operating those phone because of lags and inconsistency,

Android needs at least 1.2gHz and 512 RAM to run smooth (with root permission) or dualcore 1.7 gHz 768RAM (without root permission). all android device running at this much spec is at least 180 euros..
simpledude, 22 Oct 2013make it in android and everyone will embrace and love Nokia esp. with this kind of mid range phoneslol.. as if android can run smoothly at less than 512mHz cpu and 64mb RAM

AnonD-134749, 22 Oct 2013Lot of people dosent want a chiness knock off and cant afford to buy a high screen size phone.... more3.5" is the minimum these days. Below this, the portrait keyboard is difficult to operate.
And for a few dollars more, you can have an Android phone. What is the point of releasing multiple phones with same screen size and minor spec alterations? Nokia could easily have one slightly larger screened model, unless they are trying to protect the Lumia phones.
Waiting for these device Nokia.. Hope, nokia release them soon to Indian market
AnonD-181710, 22 Oct 2013Remember everyone. Its Microsoft not Nokia. They(Microsoft) are just using its(Nokia) name. Hei, what is ur problem troll.. You can't understand a simple fact.. These all are nokia device.. ms phone will come when the deal is approved by share holder..
Debb, 22 Oct 20133" screen is the deal breaker. nobody wants that small a screen, in 2013 too. Nokia clear... moreLot of people dosent want a chiness knock off and cant afford to buy a high screen size phone. for them this is very good choice.
no phone of any good company give biger screen in such low price
3" screen is the deal breaker. nobody wants that small a screen, in 2013 too. Nokia clearly has lost touch with ground reality. 'Bye bye, Nokia aka Microsoft!
AnonD-181710, 22 Oct 2013Remember everyone. Its Microsoft not Nokia. They(Microsoft) are just using its(Nokia) name. it is still nokia. This are Nokia's last batch of phones under the Nokia name if they agree with mircrosoft deal.
Success is a thing some can detect early. In the case of this Asha series, I posted my views very early on, stating that it will eventually grow into more advanced models literally all bearing the very concept core of what makes a product successful. Personally I have no doubt that Nokia/MS will catapult into the top 3 again, and soon.
