Well, they already make ugly and stupid phones, now they can get rid of the ads in their asses. Crazy Displays, Cameras, Sound, Batteries and Quality and they will decorate it with ads for me another time! It is precisely because of Ads that I do not buy anything from Xiaomi, Redmi, Poco. I will never buy a phone from Nothing.
They do not even put a charger only for the Greatest Indians, Crazy for them they have an Original charger! Oh Carl Pei, declare bankruptcy and disappear from the Mobile Market, Crazy Poor Incompetent who makes Trash with Other People's Money and then wonders why his sales are not going well!

Realistically, ads aren't going anywhere and more sites, even YouTube, will be paywalled at some point. The answer is simple.. you can't expect quality content for free and adblockers aren't quite extremely widespread yet (especially on mobile). In due time.. so I encourage everyone to enjoy it while it lasts.

"Pei, you left OnePlus because you were tired of the flagship killer price wars and wanted to open a new, more brand-driven path.
And yes, you’ve had some success."

                                        Small success
                                        But it turn out
                                        It's not scalable
Only a few really interested in what Pei think as the perfect phone
And this make this idea "unsustainable"

Or let me put it this way
While a lot of people screaming they don't want ads
It turn out that price still command a huge weight in buying decision
And Pei feel that he can't compete with other brand if he didn't follow the trend

"But looking at things now, what really changed?"

Either the math doesn't add up or he's getting greedy

"The battlefield just moved from highend to midrange, and you’ve been pulled back into price competition, now relying on ads shown to users to secure profits."

Actually, low end also starting to get squish
Most phobe now mid range & high-end
Because a lot of those low end user upgrade to midrange when they have money
