Anonymous, 26 Dec 2008sony ericsson is garbage...their phones are toys. The X1 sells for about $800+ and it has noth... moreYes Nokia design their own phones and yes they may make them too but Sony Ericsson make quality. You dont pay $800 for 'nothing'. Xperia has some of the best specs in a smartphone to date. On top of that each model is unique in its own way both physically and software. Nokia just use the same crap, slow processing power for all their models. They just stick a new shell over a previous model, give it a different name and up the price. Take the N96 and N97 for example. Have you compared the specs yet? Completely identical except for a few minor differences. Thats why i moved to SE after Nokia let me down after 3 years.
And the reason for the price is 'you get what you pay for'. Simple.
I honestly just hope they know what they are doing when ditching HTC.
Another thing I would like to point out is their choice of the processor which in my opinion is the crappiest choice for windows.
I would love to see Intel inside or anything better than Qualcomm.
SE fans are so adorable. They can forgive everything. Poor ones!
X1 is the new P990 but this time SE have no excuse.
its a grat fone with very high resolution i had ever seen,,,
but its price is quite high.
i think that SE made the right decision by not tying up to HTC on their next project of Xperia...y? because my wife works there & if i say something bad(even an inch) to their brand, absolutely shell kick me out of our bed & do what our cellphone does "silent mode but it vibrates" so a round of applause to the New Xperia! Cheers! :)
this would be a mojor loss for tech fanatics who love modding and customizing their WinMo, theres no better place than XDA to get the sweet tweaks and somehow XDA only like HTC products, anything HTC finds its home their even the G1 (HTC Dream) which is Android has its section and this is exactly why the Diamond was more preferred by Tech Fanatics cause over the Omina and if X2 drops the 'HTC made' title unless its much hyped it probably won't be as loved by the modding community, SE your ruined alot before...its time to get things right now, later homies!
actually, sony vaio laptop has been using foxconn motherboard for awhile now. maybe, a buy out....of foxconn
have you seen Mobinnova phones ??? they looks so beauty and they will for sure help SE improve even more, so SE will lead the world
Im a true die heart fan of Sonyericsson Mobile. But when i saw the news that XPERIA is made by HTC I got shock. As Sony have a excellent VAIO brand. so why dont they merge the VAIO technology in their XPERIA series.. SE have the good design concept for mobile as well as laptop. I think they should go by their own way. I know they dont have the experience but now they have. So they should go with the VAIO technology.
Update: Nokia transfers production from Germany to Romania

MUNICH, Germany — Nokia announced plans to discontinue its mobile devices production and related activities in Bochum, Germany. The company claims the location is not cost effective and plans to move the respective activities to production sites in Eastern Europe and Finland.
In addition to closing the Bochum production line, the company intends to sell its line fit automotive business. Also, the Bochum-based adaption software R&D entity is on the block: Nokia says it is in talks with Sasken Technologies about a possible takeover of this business. All together, the move will affect about 2300 employees.
According to a company press release, the Bochum site lacks of competitiveness. Even additional investments would not result in manufacturing at that location to regain global competitiveness, Nokia Executive Vice President Veli Sundbäck said in a press conference. He called the decision "a tough one" and added that it is necessary to secure the company's long-term competitiveness. "Due to market changes and increasing requirements for cost-effectiveness, production of mobile devices is no longer feasible in Germany for us," he said.
In other words competation from other mobile giants like S.E is costing them to re-think and reorganize even to close it sites know matter how they try to spin it.
Nokia plans closure of its Bochum site in Germany
15 January 2008, 10:48am
Espoo, Finland- Nokia today announced plans to discontinue the production of mobile devices in Germany and close its Bochum site by mid-2008. The company plans to move manufacturing to its other, more cost-competitive sites in Europe.
As a consequence of the planned shift of production from Bochum to other European sites, Nokia also intends to discontinue other non-production activities at the Bochum site. In conjunction with the announced plans to close its Bochum site, Nokia is also announcing plans to sell its line fit automotive business and it is in negotiations with Sasken Technologies to sell the Bochum-based adaptation software R&D-entity.
The planned closure of the site in Bochum is estimated to affect approximately 2,300 Nokia employees.
Nokia's decision to discontinue manufacturing in Bochum is based on the lack of competitiveness of the location. Renewing the site would require additional investments but even this would not result in manufacturing in Bochum being globally competitive.
"The planned closure of the Bochum production site is necessary to secure Nokia's long-term competitiveness," said Veli Sundbäck, Executive Vice President of Nokia and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Nokia GmbH. "Due to market changes and increasing requirements for cost-effectiveness, production of mobile devices in Germany is no longer feasible for Nokia. It cannot be operated in a way that meets the requirements for global cost efficiency and for flexible capacity growth. Therefore we have to make this tough decision."
Nokia will start the consultations with the employee representatives as soon as possible in order to to reach a satisfactory solution for all parties concerned.
The financial costs associated with this restructuring will be determined along with the consultation process and reported in Nokia's quarterly reporting for 2008.
