Dear Mr Samsung, I own many Samsung devices, TV's S4 and original note etc.
seeing as I am not a hermit and travel quite regularly the comments from customers on this and other boards has made me reconsider my purchase of a Note3, I will also be dumping the S4.
No doubt your business will survive this however, if you fail to listen to your customers and focus on the sales prevention department (within the mobile division that dreamed up this lock idea), you will be a little smaller for it.
you wont be seeing any of my money again.
best of luck, and bye bye
okay. I bought my s4 here in KSA and its perfectly working using my local sims. But when i use a philippine sim, it is asking for an UNLOCK CODE.
Now heres what ive done:
I tried also calling using my local sim for about 5 mins. Then i tried a philippine sim and did not ask for an unlock code anymore.
im not quite sure if it really does work in philippine soon because my Sim Card is already expired. But same Sim card was used before and after my procedure... i just hope for the best of my cellphone..

I just bought S4 at the airport in France. As I work in North Africa I put my new phone in the bag and went to catch a flight. When I arrived I put my work SIM in and to my surprise it does not work. Now I have 550 euro paperweight. The sole purpose of unlocked phone is to use it anywhere. Now I'm stuck at work for next two months and can't buy European Sim to unlock my phone or can't go back to return it. I was a very big fan of Samsung but not anymore. Thank you Samsung.
HI Samsung, Ur End is reaching fast.....!
Dont be in too much head weight.
Just think for an instance, Out of your whole biusinesss cycle of a phone, how much % of phones will be used by grey markets...?
From my point of view, its in a very negligible amount og % only.
So, why punish others....!!!
People who travel abroad like me, are realy facing problems...
Ofcourse, i am Galaxy S4 user.
In seeking to stop the grey market in their phones by putting on a regional lock, Samsung are punishing the innocent along with the guilty. I hope this will prompt a massive swing away from purchasing their products towards manufacturers who do not treat their customers with such contempt. Richard
ultraHD, 27 Nov 2013guyz try to search REGION LOCK AWAY at android market thankz hope it might helpPeople have used their hard earned money to buy what they believe is a genuine product, they deserve to use their phones the way they see fit. By the way, region lock away does not work for the exynos version and requires root, meaning you lose warranty.
I updated my Galaxy S4 to 4.3. GT-I9505 with local UK sim card inserted.
I used 5 minutes talk time (about 6) on the local sim.
I now have my globe telecom sim card from the Philippines in the S4 and its working on roaming (I'm in UK/wasn't asked for any unlock code)
Phone was manufactured in May 2013. Bought sim unlocked/unbranded.
Hoping this means region lock isn't active.
guyz try to search REGION LOCK AWAY at android market thankz hope it might help
5 mins of voice call is also does not remove region lock... I bought this phone from belsimpel.nl... used with a dutch sim for 5 days... so had almost 20-30 mins of voice call before I came to India for a vacation... but when I put my Indian sim it asks for the network unloacking code... however if I put my dutch sim in it.. it works perfectly... so voice call theory of region unlocking of galaxy note 3 is bull☆☆☆t...
SAMSUNG ON REGION LOCK: YOU NEED 5 MIN OF VOICE CALLS

EU Note3, 18 Nov 2013I have a EU Region locked Note3 and I have first tried with a non-EU sim, which is not working... moreRight! This is quite simple! But:
"Note that the Region lock is implemented in the Android 4.3 software that many Samsung phones are receiving at the moment, including the Galaxy S4, S4 mini, S III and Note II. So, keep that in mind before you hit Update."
As you can see, even the devices that are in use will be locked when they receive the 4.3 update. They will be unlocked too after 5 minutes of call with an appropiate SIM card, or... not? Nobody says nothing about this case!
EU Note3, 18 Nov 2013I have a EU Region locked Note3 and I have first tried with a non-EU sim, which is not working... moreREAD XDA FORUMS users who tell very different horror stories of samsung region locks.. thats why apps like CHAINFIRE to "unlock" ..R U FOR REAL ?
I have a EU Region locked Note3 and I have first tried with a non-EU sim, which is not working then EU-sim, which worked.
I have now tried this method and I can now use my non-EU sim. Great!
I don´t think you have to use the EU sim to "first" activate you phone, because i haven´t.
Tech.Chief, 18 Nov 2013This is a great business move by Samsung, stop crying about it!!How is lies and deception good business strategy?
Anonymous, 17 Nov 2013ronny-" samsung has made it clear.." u say ! old usa saying "CLEAR AS MUD"... moreWell i didn't know that the old USA have trouble reading the article written in English properly. You just need to make 5 minutes of call in order for you to use in other regions. I don't see how are you affected unless if you are currently doing illegal smartphone trading. I'd suggest you to clear that mud on your face blocking your eyes. :)
