Anonymous, 14 Nov 2013Reading some of the comments make me laugh: Cheap Junk? Too expensive? Needs better s... moreThese guys were part of the underfunded, under utilized group who created Maemo tablets b4 way before iphone came along, then the N900 maemo followed by Meego. they were not part of symbian.
aee, 15 Nov 2013why do many of you think like sheep? What I hate most is to look like everyone else out there... moreyou also need lots of taps and swipes to move around an iphone. and most USA os are data miners/guzzlers. hope this one isn't.
Anonymous, 14 Nov 2013Too expensive. Needs 8 core and 8 gb of RAM to be competitive with top offering from SAMSUNG. ... moreHahaha....now look at this comment...it shows that android needs big cores and rams just to run whatsapp
why do many of you think like sheep? What I hate most is to look like everyone else out there. Androids are too boring, and iPhones are overpriced and too small to see anything on them. I have used all OS's and I like best the WP. I have a Lumia 920 and I love it.
No one spoke about ''Android apps compatibility here''
All the Android apps can be installed on Jolla phones!
A much better demo of the device is available than the one in the article. After you watch the video in the news article, click on tile titled "Sailfish's Demo in Helsinki" on Ubergizmo.com (4:58 in length).
The multi-tasking looks very, very good and there are some nice, innovative features in the OS. Hopefully is won't be long before this phone makes the global market.
It is great to see something different and innovative coming to the market that is not all specs hype driven and neurotic apps driven. Efficiency, productivity, security along with a decent camera is what is need, not the neurosis over the number of cores or irrelevant apps.
Reading some of the comments make me laugh:
Needs better specs?
Maybe you should actually use the phone yourself and then comment based upon personal experience and not your bias based upon who knows what.
The phone scored better than expected in the benchmark test and that should tell you the ex-Nokia guys learned a thing or two from their experience from Symbian. As for the price, they are releasing it in their home market only now and I would expect they have done a bit of research before pricing the phone. With this being their first phone they need a bit more margin and I would guess they're expecting the Finn citizens to support a Finn company.
I hope it's a good product and it's success gives us consumers another choice in handset os'.
now it is lunching in Helsinki.
for Finns 400 euros is not big deal so many will buy it. They will check what response Finns would give and then it is decided that weather this should be shipped outside or needs more work to do.
Anonymous, 14 Nov 2013Needs dual quad core snapdragon to compete in this market. At least 16 GB of ram and 7" s... moreCheap junk? How do you know? Have you tried it? Do you own one?
Comments like your's get reported.
Blah, blah, blah and blah..what good is all this talk. its not even on the global market. What a let down..
I wish they had chosen a more sticky name for the company, good chipset for start
Hope these old Nokia employees can be succesful,as they only lost there jobs after,Microsofts Salesman Mr Elop stepped in at Nokia,an then announced "Symbian is Dead",Profiles on this phone is like using a old Nokia phone,i would like to see who produced the camera on this jolly phone, would the current Nokia people have do that or not, hope its released Worldwide as well this Smartphone
Cenas, 14 Nov 2013Too expensive for a new contender.Finns are rich.. ;-)
It's time to remove Nokia from the top of the menu at the left. They are no more in the Smartphone business.
Replace with Microsoft and Jolla.
Anonymous, 14 Nov 2013Needs dual quad core snapdragon to compete in this market. At least 16 GB of ram and 7" s... moreIt does not need a quad core processor to compete in this market. As you can see Moto X runs a dual core processor same as this phone. Besides that it is not junk, it a good and fresh phone that tries to persuade other kind of people not people that wants a brick type phone (Note 3).
