Basically, buy the Samsung phone only if it has an unlocked bootloader (or can be unlocked), then install a custom ROM and be done with it. Or better yet, get a Nexus 5.
i have installed uk rom for my S3 14 nov., it's work smooth but has problems! homebuttom n standbyb. work sometime badly n react very slowly
4.1.2 with JKay and Boeffla kernel (with sound-quality as good as Galaxy S with Voodoo Sound) is more than good enough for me!
Why have widgets on the lockscreen, that is as having a startscreen ontop of the original startscreen, why? I think it is easy to swipe to unlock and let the lockscreen be the lock for the phone!
this is pretty much exactly why you shouldn't buy an android phone. Nuff said. Issues like this, speaks for itself.

For icons you just install any launcher and you can choose any themes and nice looking icons. I had S3 for more than a year and it is time to go to google Neuxes 5 so I can get updates first and lag free. Good bye samsung I know you have nice hardware spec but in same time bad laggy software and bad customer support and bad memory issues s3 memory bugs .
i've update to 4.3 but cyanogenmod. best experience on android and ram is not free at all but is fastest as hell! you dont miss the stock sammy rom. Try Cyanogenmod 10.2 or CM11 (4.4 Kitkat)

Samsung are usually pretty fast at updates, but they usually suck big time with all the bloat they put on it, and make a mess of it.
S2 Brick Bug anyone? Ice Cream Sandwich was also terrible on the S2.
No use in trying to future proof a phone with multiple cores when you can't even make the updates work.

and i never saw or experienced any bugs
samsung never again. i flashed the BTU rom and it destroyed my phone. Just launch a plain rom based on AOSP id be happier.
This is what you are serving to customers. .GS3 gives fame to samsung..bt hw come u forgot ex-flagship mobile

That's one of the reasons why I would never buy Samsung phone again.for those of you who already own one or more, just be patient and hopefully you'll get the updates sooner than later. I'm so happy I waited for the nexus 5 and I think it's the best android phone hands down. You'll be the first to get the latest update as well.
that's why i'm buying MOTO G instead of gs3!!!comes with 4.3 and the 4.4 update is coming in January!
oh and lag free
The exact same thing happened to the Galaxy S2 with 4.0.4 ICS update. I'd avoid updating an ex Galaxy flagship to anything Samsung and just move on to CyanogenMod.

I think every manufacturer does the same
I think Samsung spends too much time on hardware and too little time on software, we have been waiting on this like forever and to be greeted by this? Now they talking about a 3 sided display and up to now nothing about even the Note 2 seeding, come on Sammy do better!
