Yes my sp will get kitkat!but why the zr is under invistigation? They have the same hardware??
Thanks a lot sony....SP is really superb budget phone....its really Make.believe...please fix the wifi strength and camera quality with kitkat update as well.
The only thing why Sony Xperia ZR is not getting update is its low sales. Its sales has failed the expectation of Sony & they wont invest in it till it wont fill up their pockets. So simpe, guys it not only about hardware, ZR is a failure device.
sony is only thing about their high end device..great mistake that i bought a sony device.
Val, 22 Nov 2013Though in the Philippines, only 1 carrier caters Xperia Z. No word yet for Xperia Z1. But Xper... moreHere in Peru the Z never arrived, only the ZL, and for only one carrier. Looks like the one that carried it has some sort of exclusivity... I don't know, maybe was the only one (of the 2) that did want to carry the device (ZL)... It's sad, but here the only high end device available from Sony through a carrier is the ZL.
You can find the Z, ZL, Z Ultra, ZR, etc through retailers, thoug, each running 4.2. My ZL is on 4.2 also, I flashed the latest build as soon as a one week after buying it (after I made sure the device worked fine) the one from the carrier is still on 4.1.2 and will be for at least 6 months. :/ Thankfully it's pretty easy to update manually.
Anyway, I'm quite sure the ZR and other similar ones, even with 1GB of RAM, will get 4.4, just be patient people ^-^ When 4.4 arrives to my ZL by january I'll make sure that all my apps and games work with it: Directory Bind, and the full screen ones, specially. If not, then I think I'll update much later... When I hava finished playing,... The updates tend to mess with the games ¬¬
Good news by Sony they are trying to update xperia t,tx,v into 4.4 kitkat, I hope they will succeed in investigation on t,tx,v for 4.4 .
Bullseye, 22 Nov 2013Yea. Valid point you have there. Furthermore mobile carriers might carry only Xperia Z, which ... moreThough in the Philippines, only 1 carrier caters Xperia Z. No word yet for Xperia Z1. But Xperia Z from that carrier still runs on 4.1.2 though most of the consumers who bought it outside the carrier have 4.2.2. It really depends on the country and carrier. I hope Sony won't disappoint Xperia ZR users. I'm just fine if 4.4 would be the last update for Xperia ZR knowing that the hardware is S4 Pro and Qualcomm might discontinue releasing the support kernels.
if sony doesn't update xperia u with smooth working kitkat in next 3 months, after so many months of torture under laggy ics without working official update (despite announcements), not only that i will not buy new sony phone that actually works (which seems to be the general idea:"buy our phone that works good, update it so it doesn't work good anymore, then toss it and buy another newer phone, ours of course), i will never buy ANY sony product again.

Furthermore mobile carriers might carry only Xperia Z, which is the case in my country Singapore. Thus making it harder for consumers to buy the phone if mobile carriers / mobile retailer do not carry that particular model.
I got my Xperia ZL from other mobile retailers, and I have to say that these mobile retailers know nuts about Xperia ZL, let alone Xperia ZR, they always thought I'm looking for Xperia Z or Xperia Z1.
I think Xperia ZR is still going to get the 4.4. I believe it's under consideration because of sales. Xperia SP sales is greater than Xperia ZR. Sony won't invest to a phone that doesn't produce numbers. Of course they can't get rid the fact that Xperia ZR's hardware is almost identical to Xperia Z/ZL. A lot of fans will be disappointed including me.
Just calm your tities! ZR will get 4.4 update. As for some older Xperia device, it's pretty hard to say.
It's easy for consumers to talk s*** and ask tonnes of questions about latest updates for the phone. But it's not easy for these developers who are in charge of providing software updates for phones.
Think from another perspective and don't be so narrow minded.

bit of a no brainer really. roll on kitkat. Come on Sony pull your finger out.
