Like all my other unlocked Russian phones, once leaving Russia they will not receive updates. 2. If they ever do get updates (via a PC) and/or are factory data reset, they again become region locked. (Contact Samsung Support to verify.)
Note: It requires a Russian passport to receive a SIM on Beeline, MTS, or MEGAFONE. The MEGAFONE Note 3 is also carrier locked; they are the official carrier here and offer the Note at a substantial discount. (The signs are everywhere.)
geordie81, 22 Jan 2014actually sim region lock does not work like that, if the athletes are given these phones to us... moreActually, I am a US citizen currently visiting Novocheboksarsk, Russia. I visited the local authorized Samsung Store. I considered the Note 3 here; after direct contact with Samsung, and with help from the Russian clerk, I opted against it. According to Samsung Russia, Region Lock does not work as many people claim.
My German friend purchased an Unlocked Note 3 in Germany (not T-Mobile branded); the phone was activated using a local German T-Mobile SIM; upon arriving to Houston, TX, the Note worked great (roaming). When a US T-Mobile or AT&T SIM was used, the phone would not function.
So in the case of this Olympic version, they may not be region locked (as some were not).

Stephen Bobs, 22 Jan 2014What about Samsung Galaxy Note 3: -Valentine Edition -April Fool Edition -Major League Edit... moreand this stupid Samsung's note 3 getting more attraction day by day.... what about non sense apple's tiny waste pieces,
Will these be region locked? If so, what use are they after the Olympics when the athletes travel home?
What about Samsung Galaxy Note 3:
-April Fool Edition
-Major League Edition
Ugliest plastic price ever. And its gonna be a disaster again because of the region lock, most of the athletes cant bring it back to their home countries, will not work with SIM cards from their region.
Good job olympic medals dont come in plastic and fake leather :-D
