Motorola was actually working on the concept when that video got released. They then Hired the guy who made Phoneblocks and when Motorola got bought by google, Google started the developement.
This idea is stolen from PhoneBloks.
Another big company trying to 'Innovate' the market.
the first generation of any technology is always off the mark. But only after the few brave souls take the first step; everyone else follows suit.
Hi Ho Silver Away!
Anonymous, 28 Feb 2014nothing new - one more stolen idea!!brought and paid for..
This could be some revolution....BOL team ara...only advice dont delay this much as you would need time to come to fashion...BOL
this is the most revolutionize smartphone innovation, adding more speed, processing core, memory, MegaPixel, fingerprint sensors not even come close to this innovation.
But it is to soon to say but I will be ready to put my hat off when this Ara project come to fruition.
Plus it seem Google also notice that this project must attach with befitting price tag - which is great.
ciquta, 27 Feb 2014It sounds very intresting, but I'm afraid it would be much more bulky than regular smartphones... moreOf course you can provided the antenna is already integrated into the none modular body.
Hope it will be standardized. And we'll have PC like phone. We can get best hardware from each manufacturer and install our favorite OS just like PC did. May it ubuntu, android, wp, jolla, tizen, etc :)
High price payers always want distinction from others.. Low price payers want similarity with those of high price payers. Lets see how google is going to manage this contradictory ego of the people. There is no look alike substitue for RollsRoyce..! If it is there they will not buy it. So how they can meet their target of "Phone for 600 Bn" Lets wait and see..
I am a PC Builder and I believe that this thing won't give the same costumising experience as on Building PC.
I think this is the beginning of phonebloks. please watch this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDAw7vW7H0c
ciquta, 27 Feb 2014In order to integrate the modules I guess the drivers for each module has to be opensourced. ... morethey'll all be on the phone, it will just have to update when a new module comes out
Limited, 27 Feb 2014Of course it will run on Android...It's Google eh? Well, it would be better if we can choose t... moreIn order to integrate the modules I guess the drivers for each module has to be opensourced.
In this case you can integrate any OS, just like Nexus devices with Ubuntutouch and Jolla.
Some have even talked about phones where users replace/upgrade their hardware by themselves. This will not happen if it does not coincide with the interest of the companies involved. I cannot say if it is the same with personal computers but since the smartphone market is so large now, I believe we are years away from seeing such a thing.
