Hopefully this time around Sony makes BOTH the front and the back out of glass. I wanted the Z1c badly until the plastic back issues were exposed.

Come correct Sony.

Common Sensei, 04 Apr 2014I suppose you've never heard the saying "A man of many things, but a master of nothing&qu... morenah, the problem is not in the revenue... the problem is in lame marketing...
whilst for ex. samsung and apple spend billions, sony spends only millions

I don't find it a bad thing though... would not want them to turn massive, they would loose on quality and craftmanship, would loose focus...

I personally prefer that special not-so-mass-orientated Sony mobile flavour ;)

Whenever a new flagship is ... moreI suppose you've never heard the saying "A man of many things, but a master of nothing". Sony is undoubtedly a company of many things, yet a master of nothing. In order for a company to truly flourish, the must first master something. Take Apple for example. They have one phone, one operating system. But it dwarfs an industry saturated by thousands upon thousands of phones. That's not to say Apple couldn't use more versatility? But it proves, focus & time are required in order to build upon the success of any one product. And to this point, Sony's focus has been everywhere, instead building a solid foundation in any one particular area of the industry. Are Sony known, for phablets, are Sony known for mid-rangers, how bout flagships??? No, no & no. Sony's only claim to fame in the smartphone world, is quality. And that's because they do nothing that applies to the masses & everything that applies to a person who appreciates quality. Which isn't bad by any means. But unfortunately it won't gain them any significant market share until the begin to think that way.

the reviewer, 03 Apr 2014I think you should first understand what you are talking about..!! Whenever a new flagship is ... moreThe problem with that fast-moving strategy (which Ericsson already tried out for quite some while back in the days before SE) is that you end up damaging the exclusivity of your flagships and thus alienate it's target audience and the perception of value (your offerings will be recalled as being quickly devaluated -- specially when the competition does not adhere to that strategy).

In short you are pushing the envelope too far with those short cycles, completely ignoring you have other premium competitor that still stays on longer cycles, which further accentuates the perception of loss of value for Sony flagships.

Ultimately that helps brands such as Apple and HTC to further enhance a "premium brand" status.

Nigon, 03 Apr 2014the problem with sony, is everybody will be expecting "the next flahship" and less p... moreIn a kind of way, i think that this is a good strategy for sony and some customers, Why?...let me explain, a year ago Z was the flagship, i think the cost was around 650$, now almost a year ago this phone cost 375-400$...and this is more affordable for customers that dont mind not having a flagship phone, but for that price range still gets a beast of a phone, the same will be with Z1 and compact when Z2 get released. In the other hand, the costumers that cant live without having the latest phone, gets a little play with this strategy, but i guess if they can afford a flagship every time, its nothing wrong with that.

the problem with sony, is everybody will be expecting "the next flahship" and less people purchase the current flaghship

at least that is exactly what happen to me, and my wife, we were thinking to purchase the Z, and then appear Z1, and when we decide to go for the Z1, sony announced the Z2, and again, the Z1 compact was a better option because the size, and now, when we have the money, this news about the Z2 compact :D

and I'm still waiting with my Xperia T, wich have now 4.3 onboard and work pretty fine anyway

seriously, in the meanwhile you wait a little bit for lower prices, sony announced the replacement model, too bad, or i'm too poor :D

Common Sensei, 03 Apr 2014If older models is what pushed market share gains? You'd be right. But they don't. Newer model... moreI think you should first understand what you are talking about..!! Whenever a new flagship is launched, the price of the previous one is dropped which changes its competitors...its not about whether the Xperia Z will outsell the Nexus 5 but a person who could not have afforded the Xperia Z earlier can now consider buying it as the price difference between the two phones is not much and one can get better quality and specifications by paying the same or a little bit more price.... even if they are not majorly gaining in one place, they can gain from several places/segments together which ultimately helps in capturing the market...

Spending on R&D is a very good thing as because of that we got the Z series...and splitting profits among products can earn more money than just focusing on one product and selling as gaining market share also helps in gaining recognition among people, ultimately boosting sales and profit...!!
