Imagine this.
Its been plan to release next year.
do you see it be comparable to the next galaxy, Xperia or Nexus?
so the promise of keeping up the technology without throwing an whole phone away already is false.
The second promise of saving money is also false.
they want to build and sell this phone cheap but making it modular achieves the opposite. It involves so many extra steps to work that a complete phone don't require.
and again software support will be an nightmare.
Gooele has something akin to custom PC building for the smartphone. The OEMs are not going to like this but they will have to join the game of producing 'components' now.
Think of a Nokia camera module, Samsung Radio+SoC, Sony battery, Sharp IPS panels etc
This concept has the potential to make all OEM style smartphones pushed into the boutique niche. This will force OEMs to release really big leaps in improvements hardware and capability wise every time they have a new model, otherwise no one will bother with OEM phones anymore.
Will be an epic fail!!!!!!
Cool concept ,useless product.
Phones are already so versatile(in one slim package) and cheap.
building your own phone won't be cheap and you won't get a phone that perform as good as any latest phone even if you buy the latest parts.
and software support will become an difficult problem.
People are so use to getting rid of old device, do they really imagine people buying this and keep it longer than 2 years by choice?
The problem is that consumer are so seduced by manufacture's constant refreshing phones design and packing so much value into a neat little affordable package.
owning an self upgradable phone and keep longer than the current average upgrade cycle(1 to 2 years)just feels unattractive.
This is hardly Googles idea, see link

If they succeed they will dominate market forever. No more phones every year which costs 500$ form Apple and Samsung. Ones You have base module You can customize phone how You like. Can wait to see It.
it`s so stupid think you will must have a module for de microusb conector!!!!! so many modules..thats insane.

anyone need more??
now thats what we call "GAME CHANGER",,, im really excited for this thing
google is realising the concept of smartphone
Now that's innovation. Companies like Samsung or Apple barely does something for this industry. Without Google, we would be waaaaay back texhnology-wise. Thanks to Google!
It is the real demand of time. I cant afford changing phone every three month.
The real King is Google.
