apple is a thief

And they knew that the tiny companies would not stand a chance in court and probably would settle for a pay out.
AnonD-196068, 30 Apr 2014In a word? Protectionism!Right...It's sad. Apple is even in the works of possibly being awarded a patent for their store set up.
AnonD-210547, 30 Apr 2014Which patents are Apple not paying for? To which companies? The long list that Nokia took them to court for and won.

Until the basic rule of, if you did not actually invent the thing you are trying to patent then get lost is enforced this practice will continue. Apple actually tried at one point to patent any mobile phone that was rectangular! So should everyone else make round phones? The patent system is a joke quite honestly.

Why is it OK for Apple to steal anything they want and try to sue everyone no matter how preposterous. ..But when people take a move against apple then everyone steps in?????
The president in US even stepped in with a Veto!

Anonymous, 29 Apr 2014Google kept most, if not all, of Motorola's patents. Google also kept Project Ara. how do you think divorces end up like? she takes everything, and leaves you with only your name! lol
Lets not forget that Apple has been using patented technology since the first iPhone, that they have not licensed. So after these many years, it would be fair to say that Apple has abused the system som badly that they deserve a severe punish.
It could actually be a planned strategy from Apple. By using patented technology without licensing, they could improve their margings, and gain capital for further investments. And since they were lucky enough to make a hit product, now that they have sold these many iPhones, they go to court and whine about the large sum of money other companies are asking for, but when you take in to considiration how many sold iPhones they owe dues for, those sums are actually very fair. And unless Apple starts paying, they are not allowed to sell their phones, since those products are then considered illegal (like other patent caes, where the infringer refuses to pay for the patents even after several years).
This decision puts all the power in the hands of the company that wants to license. Since they are apparently now allowed to say what they are willing to pay, and the patent holder is forced to agree to that. Either Apple payed for this, or the people that made this decision has no idea what they are doing.
A win for Samsung! Apple started patent war just to slow down Samsung. This should teach the American judges something.

Someone, 29 Apr 2014 Dont know if you followed some court updates, but it is usually the other way aroundNo, he's right. The types of patents both companies are using are different. Samsung is notorious for trying to use SEPs in court. It is a very unusual and unethical practice that goes against the spirit of SEPs. I really wish some of the people here would actually look into the details of some of these cases instead of
