MY S3 MODEL NAME IS (GT-I9300); but the thing is that this news came from samsung mobile uk , not samsung mobile india and until s3 (gt-i9300) page is showing planned upgrade to kitkat i am not worried by this news that much off...

Rouxenator, 09 May 2014Kitkat was designed to run on 512MB devices... I guess they need about 2GB just to launch TouchWizCM11 is KitKat and it too have gigantic problems when trying to do any multitasking on S3! The real reason is probably not the 1 Gb RAM-memory! I will probably never buy any more Android-phone!

Samsung should have stayed on 4.1.2 for S3 becuse 4.3 on S3 is a complete disaster! No more Samsung for me!

It's bittersweet because so many users here bash Apple but you know what, if its one area where Apple wins hands down undisputed, it has to be support. An iphone 4 launched in 2010 can be officially updated to run iOS 7.1 but Samsung can't think to support its 2012 flagship to run the latest version of Android.

Don't know if any of you Samsung fanboys can own up and admit it.

Samsung provides 2 major updates for its S flagship phones:
Galaxy S: 2.1 --> 2.2 --> 2.3 final
Galaxy S2: 2.3 --> 4.0 --> 4.1 final
Galaxy S3: 4.0 --> 4.1 --> (skipped 4.2) --> 4.3 final

Nothing new here, same story different model.

And my prediction for S4
Galaxy S4: 4.2 --> 4.3 --> 4.4 final.....

gilda, 09 May 2014I thought that Kitkat was supposed to support and work well on phones with 512Mb of Ram. At le... moreYep, but this is valid for stock Android ROM, without bloatware and stuff...

All the bloatware slowing the system down is the reason I always root the device and also why I stopped buying Samsung!

Seriously Samsung is forcing user to buy new hardware by ignoring upgrade to devices that just a few years old. I hate this dirty trick.

I bought an S3 mini a few months ago. Do you think someone on the XDA forums will figure out a workaround for this update? Or should I just quickly get rid of it?

BTW, I found this to be a reliable and stable phone.

It's not just the RAM, it's the whole chipset. GPU and the CPU count.
