Battery drain was horrendous on standby plus they didn't have FM working. The Sony firmware proved the better choice. So I can say having tried on two different phones the XDA stuff has been smoke and mirrors. And I am sure I not alone.
My parents wouldn't let me experiment on their Samsungs lol
Not giving KitKat to the GS3 IMO is just lazy of Samsung.
The Moto G has KitKat, and that has LOWER specs of the GS3 ( the specs is another reason why Samsung won't update GS3 to KitKat).
Really lazy move by Samsung

I have zero actual experience on Samsungs, so I can't really comment from experience (only from research of a "prospective buyer"), but since you have already deviated to another brand, I can tell you that in my aging Xperia Arc S battery life really isn't any different from stock (only if you use Bluetooth then things take a turn for the *acute* worst, like most other 3rd-party ROMs -- because of the poor support in Bluez).
I'm speaking about actual daily use, not stats mind you.
Anonym, 13 May 2014Actually that's a mixed bag. There are numerous reports of having better battery life with CM ... moreYeah I know and most of those good reports are coming from none other than XDA members who have ulterior motives for promoting certain kernels and ROMs. The ones who come back with battery history and stats to show it isn't all that great as it has been talked up to be and that person is insulted and trolled till they don't press the matter. XDA members for the vocal part are nothing more than thugs ganging up on people who expose their claims. They are highly suspect for that reason. I have tried their ROMs out on my Nexus 4 for example and every time the battery life just simply sucks compared to what I already have Google stock firmware and at best they are no better. I have tried all their so called settings, governors etc it's the same story. I'd go far as saying most of those stats are fake or manipulated to look cool because no one else is able to repeat them.
AnonD-259899, 13 May 2014The problem is XDA developers are unable to get the same battery life Samsung's ROM and Kernal... moreActually that's a mixed bag. There are numerous reports of having better battery life with CM than stock in models such as the S4 mini.
The real problem is how the proprietary (driver) stuff never get's released, even after the support has been discontinued.
AnonD-209261, 13 May 2014Now Samsung seems to be copying Apple even with their company policies...And what would those be? AFAIK Apple is the company that supports their phones for the longest period of time. Sure, they eventually meet their end, but that usually comes years (plural) after the last update any same year Android flagship had.
techie life is very unfair.
i remember the S3 launch like was yesterday 'Design for human'.
Mannn time moves too fast.
Samsung have apparently devised a new method to try and keep people away from custom ROMs, without us knowing it was there. It's bloatware, of course! At least, we now know why it is of utmost importance that over half of Samsung phones' internal memory is used up by the OS, namely to force users to leave the OS alone as is delivered.
It took very long for s3...KitKat custom ROM are available even for my HTC explorer for a long while now...
for some reason Cyanogen based roms have poor/none GPS signal for I9000 and I9300
But GPS was good on I9505.
But the battery on CYANOGENMOD based ROMS drain faster than AOSP based ROMS :((
Usual the Custom roms are much better then the orignal Samsung Rom i am sure the rom is New and still in Development ..
just few months and it will be great.. i want this rom to my father's G3
AnonD-259899, 13 May 2014The problem is XDA developers are unable to get the same battery life Samsung's ROM and Kernal... moreComing from a person who can't spell "kernel" properly... I would not trust this statement.
samsung is so lazy for updates, S3 launched the same year as LG G and this just got kitkat in korea and receiving knock-on update.. LG all the way.
AnonD-49673, 13 May 2014You probably mean AOSP roms D becaues this is based on stock ROM of the Galaxy Note N7100.If that's the case then it will work for the International Exynos ones. That also means not much love for the Snapdragon Americas edition. Someone mentioned Qualcomm charges license fees for using their special optimized kernals which is why XDA cant give the best possible ports.
