This is actually good news for Android. It cuts down hardware fragmentation that is giving Android developers headache with force closes and freezes.
Damn i wanted to buy a tegrak1 device! I have hp slate7 plus with tegra3 and i love it!!!! Well eff them and their new tegrak1 i'll buy snapdragon . Mediatek is bull-ish lol
they should team up with Intel, each of them has what the other needs, intel needs a better GPU, Nvidia Needs better CPU, problem solved
Good for them, Like it on the HOX but lack of support just Doomed them..
Really, really bad news for the healthy of competition! For the really improvement of the smartphony technology! !!!!
Meh. Couldn't careless... Qualcomm Snapdragon for the win! I knew NVIDIA wouldn't make it on smartphones the first place. Can't beat Qualcomm, so they opt-out, lol.
Good fight, Over-priced NVIDIA.
"...in order to compete, NVIDIA will have to compete on not just performance but also on price."
Well, Tegra 4i is an extremely stupid SoC. It has a very powerful GPU but the RAM is only 32-bit single channel, which is obviously not enough for 4-core CPU and 60-core GPU.
coz their processors were the porche for smartphone..., btw if i get a new laptop ill get it with ati or anything else but nvidia..
PJT, 23 May 2014I don't get it, how about Tegra K1? he should said anything about it.whats there to talk about tegra k1 draws too much power for small devices so its probably planned for big tablet or tv box or android console
That is sad cuz ima huge fan if nvidia for mobile and i know lots of people out there owns nvidia devices

The main problem of Nvidia wa... moreNope Qualcomm's cores are custom cores they are not based on A15. A15 is a IP block you can license. It's power numbers and thermals are available to anyone who has the license with ARM. Plus if you are a layout engineer you can do thermal and power modelling yourself and you pretty much know the numbers on the A15s.

Too bad most Android phones are cheap crap so they won't use the faster TEGRA K1 SOC.

There are lots of low-end Qualcomm-based phones (Snapdragon S4 Play, Snapdragon 200) that are stuck with 4.0 or 4.1.
MHanz, 23 May 2014Not really a case of not being any better than the competition. It's a case of their Tegra SoC... moreBattery life is like all other oven SoCs based on Cortex A15.
The main problem of Nvidia was lagging behind in time. Being opponent to Snapdragon 800, Tegra 4 was 10 months late on the market. Tegra K1 is 6 months late on the market. Only new GPU can save it a little time, as presumably Radeon 430 could be more performant. But they have been hurry with ARMv8 CPUs to compete with Snapdragon 810.
And of course lack of connectivity modems is another main problem.
I own a Tegra Note 7 and I think it's a blazing fast tablet and everything about it is good (well except the screen resolution when compared to Nexus 7). I think while NVidia might not focus on Mobile devices, they have done a good job at the Tablet segment.
We can figure out what will happen to the people who will buy 4i. The same as always.
Gaurav Kothari, 23 May 2014"Huang did suggest that NVIDIA would be interested if someone was making the "Porsch... moreSeems like it, and it makes no sense, nvidia tablets are by far the slowest, its like its impossible to control when the 4 cores are shut down and the 5th core will try to do the job alone while the other cores are waking up. They can make a comeback the day they admit that the fifth core killed normal daily usage performance. Unfortunately, listening to user criticism is not a strong side of Taiwanese leadership culture, once the course is set they tend to keep it.
Whats more qualcomm is the only soc manufacturer that you are 99% certain it will update its products drivers so they will support a newer android version. Nvidia and many others are nowhere near qualcomm in that respect. So yes if qualcomm stays the way it is im so glad it has dominated the market. Even mediatek manufactures some very fine and cheap socs but they never care to update their drivers.
