Hopefully, the launcher will run on Samsung Galaxy s2, even though the requirements state Android 4.3 or above. I have Cyanogenmod Kitkat 4.4.2 running currently without problems despite being a nightly build.
I have applied for beta testing and I already have a together.jolla account for reporting - fingers crossed!
Anyone else hoping for SGS2 to be considered for BETA testing??
Anonymous, 20 Jun 2014so - is sailfish on top of android only temporary for testing sailfish? or is it permanent for... moreJolla's Sailfish is full Linux + Alien Dalvik, while Android is "castrated" Linux + Dalvik. So, this allows Sailfish use all Android apps in environment recognised by software as native Android, with native speed, wthout lags.
Launcher brings to Android the experience of Sailfish, so how the OS behaves, operates etc.etc. - and this is temporary, as it is installed software. It can be turned on/off or deinstalled at all like any other app.
Anonymous, 20 Jun 2014so - is sailfish on top of android only temporary for testing sailfish? or is it permanent for... moreA launcher is just a homescreen app to replace the stock. Kind of like installing Nova Launcher to get the Holo look.
so - is sailfish on top of android only temporary for testing sailfish? or is it permanent for use also on jolla phones to get access to the playstore?
AnonD-205659, 19 Jun 2014Bad idea.
The only major difference between android and sailfish is the interface. Once you'... moreNo you are wrong my friend. Jolla just don't have a Unique UI, the whole OS is based on a different methodology. Being open, less usage of resources etc.
Moreover the launcher will not let you play on an android device like you can play on Jolla. Like Cover actions etc.
The purpose of making it to make people a bit familiar with Jolla's UI and reach to a bigger audience. When large number of Android users will use Jolla's launcher they will get interested in Jolla and want to buy it. Thats the basic idea. You may call it Marketing
GSMArena: Correction please. Jolla Launcher is not coming to Google Play Store next week. It is only an invitation to community to participate and test the Alpha version of the Launcher.
No no no!! Google play is for later!! This is only a beta testing program for some users who register!
The only major difference between android and sailfish is the interface. Once you're able to get that interface on your android phone, you're never going to spend money on it.
This is just like giving someone a download link to movies in order to get them to buy it.
Best way to get your phones sold, bring out a Launcher thats on the Phone, then if people like the Launcher they might think about buying the phone who Created the Launcher,Hope the Old Nokia Employees can make Jolly succesful
Omg! I'm eagerly waiting for it.
I'm using Xperia zr and for Sony phones with no physical buttons, sailfish os is simply awesome.
Hope jolla ports the whole os to these Xperias :)
