Anonymous, 04 Jul 2014Cellphones are inexpensive, powerful, and too many options to choose from. It's cheap enough ... morecellphones only seems cheap in north america because carriers get the money back from you from crazy expensive plans
in hk, you can get 2gb data plans for $20USD, ans grab an unlocked phone from any retailers
AnonD-58556, 04 Jul 2014Project Ara may sounds good and in THE FUTURE will probably be an amazing phone.. BUT.. even i... moreYou guys can't forget the following : resources are getting scarce... In 10 to 20 years, we won't have enough resources to make LCD screens anymore, cause no one are recycling the materials. When your phone is broken, you will put everything that works and everything that we can reuse to the trash.
This phone helps in saving resources by giving us the possibility to change broken parts. This IS the phone of the future, regarding saving resources.
Cellphones are inexpensive, powerful, and too many options to choose from. It's cheap enough to replace every year or two. Ara doesn't have much purpose anymore.
Project Ara may sounds good and in THE FUTURE will probably be an amazing phone.. BUT.. even if we think we have the technology to make it (we do but not that good) we need few more years of cellphone technology for this project to create a good quality phone.
Maybe he got fired because the phone pieces did not stick together on demand?
Indeed is a major loss for Google. Let's hope that project Ara (with it's SF plug'n play magnet system) won't suffer ... too much.
Also,it would be perfect if ZTE's project Mobius would start appear more in the spotlight... because competition means progress.
Modular phone concept is a winner IMHO (even if the actual smartphone manufacturers won't be very "happy") and it must not be abadoned.
Google has to buy back Motorola.. someone with extensive hardware design experience and being the former owner of the Project Ara , Motorola has to be a part of Google again or google could be in major loss, because Project Ara is one of the biggest projects google has ever signed in to.
Another failed Google project. Google's strategic of throwing stuff at the wall and see what sticks means there will be a lot of fail projects.
they cant even make the nonfuntioning prototype look slick how is the final product supposeto look better?
there are too few module slots to make a full complete phone.
even google said they will fist try to offer this to third world country customers.
a sweaty palm or even a drop of water can break this phone with all the exposed gaps.
everyone want to see it but few would buy this.
Why wouldnt the project move on?
First, the project has come so far, already, so one or hundred leaving the project would not kill it.
Secondly, the importance of a single person is somehow greatly exaggerated in the tech industry.
Like Steve Jobs came up with all those ideas? No he had teams presenting ideas to him all the time. He at most chose what to go on with.
The same is even true for Edison, so it goes far back, really.
A Ceo might lead a company in the wrong direction, but almost always, with the support of the board of directors, so if there is incompetense, is within more than just the CEO. So yet again not one single man.
The idea of the inventor that singlehandedly comes up with a great idea is mostly missleading. Usually it's based upon other ideas. And when turning the whole thing in to a company it often takes a whole lot more.
