Pretty obvious
Big up for Moto :)
Meanwhile at Samsung HQ. "We will bring Android L 1st Q next year. Maybe. Probably. We will think about it. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm............"
Exynos, 07 Jul 2014What is it with possibility of getting updates or not?
Can't they make it like Microsoft Wind... moreA CD wouldn't be of much use for a smartphone...
But sure, in concept things should have been designed with upgradability in mind.
The thing is, although the hardware is capable of upgrading it's OS, Android itself isn't that well thought-out to just deploy a generic update that easily and effortlessly accommodates most of the several different hardware configurations out there.
The end result is you always need a specific ROM tailored exclusively for your device. This takes lots of time and costs lots of money.
So what we end up seeing is manufacturers just don't upgrade most of their devices, they only take the one time cost of developing the first ROM, iron out the bugs that ROM may have in the first year of the device and (from there after) the device is "dead" for all OS updates purposes.
This is especially bad when there are pending security updates at kernel level.
